Never going to drop

Hey ladies! Anyone else in the "still carrying so high that baby isn't coming out anytime soon" club? I'm 38 weeks and I swear I feel like this baby might just stay inside forever!!

Truthfully speaking I've probably had the greatest of all pregnancies. Gained reasonable weight, been super active the entire time, worked until school ended yesterday, not really swollen, minimal heartburn, and nowhere near "so uncomfortable I just can't take it anymore." My biggest complaint to date is probably the fact that my hands are constantly going numb all day and I've taken to sleeping with wrist guards at night, it's annoying but I'm learning from others things can be much worse and I'm sincerely grateful for my "easy pregnancy"

With all of that said, every person I encounter, every day, without fail is asking the $1,000,000 question we all love "when are you due?" And when I said the 11th, the sure fire 100% annoying answer I get is "oh that's soon!! But you're much too high? No that baby isn't coming out just yet!"

Then they proceed to tell me I "haven't dropped yet, but don't worry it could happen overnight!!"

I'm telling you I could predict every conversation from every person and it's exactly the same. Anyway, bottom line is, I don't want to talk to anyone at all until this baby is born bc they are all super annoying and recite the same script I've just described it's almost comical.

Anyone else living this Groundhog Day?

If it makes you feel better I asked my OB about dropping and he said it doesn't hold any value in a medical opinion about when baby(ies) will arrive. And I know what you mean on people asking the same questions/saying the same things over & over. I think it's pretty common but that doesn't mean it's not annoying. Totally hear ya there!

  • I have the opposite. I carries low and baby has dropped, but the questions are just as annoying I promise! I get asked when I'm due. I say July 17th and get an automatic "but you're so low, there's no way you'll make it to the 17th". Well so far also is quite content where he is and as a FTM I have no hopes of going early. Hope your baby drops soon and the questions can stop!

  • I've dropped at 36 weeks. I was told I'm ready to go." Could be tomorrow or it could be In 3 weeks. " Really no way of knowing. Don't stress it. Baby will come when baby is ready.
  • I'm 39w5d and baby hasn't dropped yet... I always just tell people July... Or soon not an actual day :)

I feel my baby under my ribcage some times, and other times he's very low. I've been hearing more and more that in subsequent pregnancies, the baby doesn't drop until labor. So, I'm holding onto that... Although I had a glimmer of hope on Tuesday at the doc when he said induction by 39 weeks if you don't deliver by this coming Tuesday .

  • I never dropped with my first, and I don't think I'm going to with this one either.  My belly is still way up high, but Dr has said baby really can't get any lower without coming out.

Funny, though, that you mention people's comments.  My DS was breech until almost 38 weeks and soooooo many people felt the need to tell me that I had dropped.  Ummm, well, his head is still in my ribs so I reallllly don't think so;)  People are strange.

  • My baby is low, but still manages to stretch and kick my ribs.  I kind of wish he were like a half inch or inch higher...it's getting really difficult to sit in normal chairs at times.  I can't even comfortably sit in our bed anymore without feeling like I should just flop over like a beach whale!

But yeah, I think each of us has a conversation that we get repeatedly, day after day, from random people.  Mine since April has been "Wow you're huge!  You must be due soon?"

    ...gee, thanks.

  • I could have written your post! I am 38w2d and have had a relatively easy pregnancy (albeit some heartburn and my hands/fingers hurt a lot and am supposed to sleep with wrist guards on). Anyway, my baby has not dropped yet and I hear the same thing "since he has not dropped you won't have him for a while yet" or my favorite when I say I am due in a few weeks is "you are so big -I bet you are ready?" Gee, thanks for saying how big I am! Ugh! People bug me. Anyway, thanks for posting your question and thanks to those who have answered as it makes me feel better. Although, I do have an u/s on Monday as the doctor can tell he is head down, but they cannot tell if he is facing my back or stomach. So, we will see. Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy!
  • I don't think everyone drops. I'm only 5'1 and my doctor told me I probably won't drop because I'm so short that there is no where for my belly to drop to. I would say it just depends on the person and to not put to much thought into it.

  • Some babies don't drop until they come out.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Same situation here. I haven't dropped and I will be 38 weeks Sunday.  People are shocked that I still have 2 weeks to go....I get the "are you having twins" or " how many are in there"
Hoping this little guy makes a move soon!
  • I've carried thus baby low my entire pregnancy. Everyone has a comment and "knows" it's a boy even though dh and I haven't shared (it's a girl, we've seen it twice including 4d!). Also I'm constantly being told I won't make it til the 22nd. That part I believe because I myself don't see myself going that long. Dropped has nothing to do with when the baby will come. Be happy you haven't. Carrying this watermelon and having to hold my lower abdomen because it hurts isn't fun. I have dropped in the past couple of weeks and my cute bump is now a bowling ball that everyone thinks they're entitled to comment on.

  • My first was born at 39 weeks and dropped during labor. Don't sweat it too much.
  • Same story here due 7/9. I don't have a waddle so I fear he will stay in there forever!

I'm glad you brought up the sore hands and wrists! I have been having the same pain each morning when I wake up and forgot to ask my dr at my last appt. Glad to know I'm not alone on that one.
  • My first daughter was born at 37 weeks and she never dropped. I wouldn't worry!

At my last appointment my doctor said that I probably won't drop because my torso isn't very long. I can tell you I feel baby in my pelvis and in my ribs when he wants to stretch out which is no fun. You may not visibly drop, but that doesn't mean that the baby isn't engaged.

  • Thanks for the love ladies, I'm sure LO will decide on his/her own when it's time and we will just go with the flo.

For all of you with hand pain/constant pins and needles the wrist guards I bought off amazon.com really help when I sleep. Granted between my two crazy wrist guards and my mini snoogle I look like a crazy person, I've been sleeping surprisingly well (minus the pee breaks)

    Good luck everyone!

What kind of wrist guards did you get???
  • I have a short torso and have long babies so he has "dropped" he is as low as he's getting till I deliver, but I look the same. DS was 21 in long and 9 lbs. I wouldn't worry. People just like to add their two cents. Baby will come when he/she is good and ready!
  • i "dropped" about 2 weeks ago, and while its awesome that I can lay on my back and be able to breath, every step i take I feel like DD2 is literally going to fall out of my vagina and the lightnening vag is extremely painful.

I'm almost the opposite of everyone here....baby dropped at 34.5 weeks (I'm now 36w5d) and is measuring really big. My doctor doesn't think I'll make my due date of July 21st (neither does my prenatal massage therapist/doula) and I'm ok with that, I'd almost take the rib pain again to avoid the uncomfortableness of arguing really low.

I'm due the 22nd and my doctor doesn't think I will make it until then, she also doesn't think I will need to be induced. I do have GD and I'm measuring big too.
  • I dropped over the weekend and delivered Tuesday. I thought I had at least a week, but she was ready.
