stm+: stroller question

Is it to soon to be talking baby gear?Yes, probably. But a stroller is the only major purchase i need to make for this baby so i am already researching.

How far apart will your kids be? Ds will be almost 4 when this baby is born. I am thinking of getting a single stroller with a board attactment for ds to stand on.

Any recommendations? What do you think you will do for your kids?

Re: stm+: stroller question

  • I think the roller board would be a good idea for you.  I have a Baby Jogger City Select (2 seats) with the roller board.  I used it as a double with DS1 and DS2 and then added the roller board when DD was born and moved DS1 to that.  These days, I use it as a single but the roller board is always there if needed.  The boys prefer their balance bikes but occasionally someone gets tired.

With baby #4 we will be back to using it as a double with the roller board.

I would find a stroller that has it's own specific board.  I know a few people that have bought generic ones that supposedly fit all strollers but they do not like them and end up never using it.

  • DD will be 2.5 when this one is born. To be honest, we hardly use the stroller for her. We've maybe used it like 5 times. However, I know things will change with 2...Like the shopping cart situation, etc. Not really sure what we'll do.

  • At this point we aren't getting a new stroller. I have a city mini and also the chicco travel system. Our DD will be 4 next summer, but I plan to wear the baby most of the time. So I will wear the baby if A needs the stroller. Should we find we really want a double next year, then we will look into it. As it is, A mostly wants to walk anyway.

  • I'm looking at the Joovy. It holds a Chicco Keyfit 30 and has the seat/board on it to hold DS (who will be 3) if he chooses to ride.

  • DS will be 2y9m when this baby is born. I am leaning heavily toward getting the standing attachment for the stroller we already have. It is a Baby Jogger City Mini GT. It was pretty expensive so I would rather not invest in another one. It also has an infant seat attachment I would buy.
  • I hear you about them getting bored. Ds is 3 now and can walk most places. It is just nice still to have the stroller for doing errands and especially big outtings like the zoo. I figure I can wear the baby if Ds really needs to sit down in the stroller.

@animalcrckr: i was thinking of the city mini gt with the board. Do you find the board gets in the way of you walking? Does your lo have room to stand well? Some of the pictures look like the child's head is hitting the handle bar.

You do notice the board when walking.  For me, the benefit of the board far outweighs the slight inconvenience of occasionally kicking it with you feet.  Downhill is the hardest situation though and sometimes I will find myself slightly hunched over or standing to the side.  There is enough room to stand on it without your kid hitting their head when the handlebar is in the lowest position.  When my DH pushes it, for some reason he always has the handlebar pulled all the way out and my 3 year old ends up putting his head on the other side.  That works right now b/c DD is still in her infant carseat and DS has room for his head and entertains her at the same time.

  • DS will be just shy of 3 when this one is born.  I'm probably going to get a City Mini Double on Craigslist or at a resale shop.  There are still plenty of times where DS is in a stroller (zoo, county fair, walking to the grocery store on busy streets, etc) and I will need him contained.  I also have a City Mini single and a Snap N Go, so there will be plenty of times where the baby will be in a stroller and DS will walk, but I think I will want the ability to contain both in a stroller sometimes.

  • DS will be 4 by the time gummy bear is born, and he walks most places now. The only time we've used the stroller in the last 6 months is Disneyland. So we will keep our Baby Jogger City Elite (that I LOVE!) for the new baby and DS gets to hoof it.

  • My daughter will be around 21-22 months when LO gets here, that being said, I'm getting a double stroller, something like this: image

  • DD will only be 18 months when #2 gets here so I'm looking into either the duoglider or ready2grow. Probably the latter since it will probably work for longer.

DS will be 2yr, 9 mo when LO is born. Not sure about a double stroller yet. I like the idea of a sit and stand type. I also plan on wearing the LO alot, and just using a single stroller. But if we do get a double, I think I will try to find a used one.

  • My son will be almost 2.  We have an uppababy Cruz and G-Luxe now. I'll probably get a double MacLaren at some point, but not for a while - I love baby wearing and assuming LO2 is into it, I'll probably just do that for a (long) while. :)

  • Our first two were about 2 years apart and I was happy I did a double.  Even now at 5 and 3 we sometimes like to have them both contained, but a running board was something I seriously considered for DS when we went to Disney in May.  I think that or a sit and stand would be a good compromise

  • My DS1 and DS2 are 22 months apart and we bought a double stroller. Definitely needed. DS1 will be 3.5yrs and DS2 almost 2 when LO#3 arrives and I am hoping my 3.5yr old will be okay not in a stroller.. I am not sure how people get around with 3 little ones haha I like the idea of the roller board but i'm not sure if my double accommodates that.

The ready2grow came out right after DD was born and I wish we had gotten it.  It looked so functional!

It looks like a lot of us are going to have kiddos the same distance apart!  DD will be 2 years 9 months when new baby is born.  We have the city mini, but I heard horrible reviews about the stand up board--gets in the way for the parent while walking and the kid has no where to put their head since it's right where the handlebar is.  I'll probably do snap n go for new baby and make DD walk for the most part, but definitely want to get the side by side city mini for disney trips--can't beat that one hand fold!  I'm tempted by the britax b-ready with the second seat, but I have a feeling DD will be old enough to walk for the most part by then.
  • it looks like i'm the only one that has a daughter that will be 10 when the baby is born, yes yes i know i waiting extremely long.  but a single stroller is what i will be purchasing, but not until later on in my pregnancy.

  • I'm gonna need a double stroller without a doubt and it must be lightweight. I have a horrible back, so anything heavy will kill me.

So, I'm looking at the Valco stroller- I'm pretty sold on it.

Its under 22lbs! And its compatible with a wide range of car seats! Yep, this is the stroller for us. It's expensive, but who cares. 22 lbs is all I needed to hear. Most double strollers are over 27-30 lbs.

I'm probably going to be getting the Valco Zee Two since my kiddos will only be 21 months apart. If they were 3 years+ apart, I would just do the board attachment and then maybe get a light double stroller (umbrella type) for the times the older one needed to sit.

@amt0312 I want a light double stroller too and found this while doing research! It accepts Graco SnugRide Classic Connect (not Click Connect) and Combi Shuttle car seats. And it's 21.5 lbs! $299.
