Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS

I was recently diganosed with Pcos in November after coming off bc. In march I was put on metformin due to not having a period for multiple months. The plan right now is to take the metformin and try and lose weight then go back to my doctor in September; then talk about the next step which is looking like clomid. I know that losing weight is one of the best things to do when ttc but even on the metformin and a personal trainer I have only lost a couple pounds and still going months without a period. I also feel like ttc has taken over my mind and life, I cry when I see someone else announcing a pregnancy or get annoyed with my friends when they talk about their kids, I don't think they don't understand what I am going through (both of their kids were surprises). I also feel like people don't understand the want I have to get pregnant, I am 23 but my husband is almost 31 and we want multiple kids so I don't want to wait too long. I guess I just needed to vent and some support from ladies that have been there. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Are you taking anything like Provera to induce a bleed? Going several months without shedding your lining can be dangerous. Maybe you should get a second opinion.

  • I'm sorry you're having a hard time. How were you diagnosed with PCOS? If your PCOS is not insulin-resistant, Metformin won't help you. As others said, you need to speak with your doctor about jump-starting your cycle.

As for the weight loss, I understand your pain. I have managed to lose some weight in the past 4 months from making a serious diet change. I eat clean (mostly) and try to eat less carbs, especially at night, and I eat lots of vegetables. I also eat 4 smaller meals a day about 4 hours apart- and when I say small I mean they are properly portioned. It has still been a struggle with PCOS and hypothyroidism, but this is what's working for me and I feel better too.

I'm slowly adding in exercise and I'm working on upping my water intake. What @whocanitbenow said is true about weight loss being mostly diet. I think it was her saying it earlier this year that really made me take the plunge on this new way of eating, so thanks WCIBN lol. I think eating better/losing weight is helping my cycle too- I consistently ovulate earlier now.

Good luck and I hope you get some answers. PCOS isn't a fertility death sentence!
  • FWIW I have PCOS, am not insulin resistant according to tests, and metformin has been a lifesaver for me. Without metformin I would not have a period for months, and then bleed every day for months on end. Since starting metformin 3.5 years ago I have regularly had a 30-40 cycle with a 5-7 day period each cycle. It helped me conceive my son and it's helping me ovulate now.

I understand that having PCOS is a bummer and I can't tell you not to feel upset. I get it and I've been there. I too struggle with diet and weight. I hope that metformin and weight loss work for you. Also, I'm sure others have told you or will tell you that clomid comes with some risks and it's best to be taken from an RE instead of an OB if you can.
