Nip Cream

What is your go-to?

I've tried Lanlion ... it sucked. Tried the Jack Newman "miracle cream" ... clearly I am not worthy of the miracle.

Coconut oil helps, but I'd like something to really help. I've heard good things about Angel Mama Earth Baby (I might have it mixed up).

Our latch sucks, we're working on it, but I need some help take the edge off.

What do you use and swear by?

Re: Nip Cream

  • Expressed breast milk, air dried on the nips. Works faster and is more effective than lanolin for me. I've never tried the EMAB nipple cream but I love the Bottom Balm for LO's behind.

  • Sometimes I can hand express, haven't quite got the technique down. I'm practicing!
  • I mostly use expressed milk out of laziness. I do also use the EMAB several times a day, and like it a lot. It's easy to apply, and soaks in enough I don't have to remove before BFing again (as long as it's been at least 30-40 min after applying).

I had a wicked case of cracked nips the first couple weeks. I used lanolin, expressed bm and medela shells to prevent my bra from sticking. I really turned the corner when I started using neosporin on the nips (you have to wipe off before nursing). I was healed two days after starting the neosporin. And fixed her latch:) all of this/the neo was suggested by a LC

I have been using lanolin and the breast pads to prevent irritation- they are do sensitive.

My left nipple cracked and bled a little- my OB gave me an rx for bactroban and it worked
  • I'm the same way @MK1013‌ shirts, towels, anything that brushes against me hurts.

I'm going to try the earth mama something. If that doesn't work I'm going to just cut them off.

I used the Earth Mama stuff. I liked it better than the Lanolin. Luckily, I haven't had to use either since the first week.

ETA: @florassecret‌ - does a hot shower help? That brought me great relief in the first week. Hope you find something to help ease the pain.

  • @Jcrewgirl85‌ hot showers feel amazing! But it's lasts for the moment unfortunately. By the time I put my towel on it just rubs them.

Ice helps at night too. I wait til DS is down for his long stretch to ice them.
  • I loved the hydropads. They felt amazing and I really think they helped me heal. I also had terrible blisters, sores, cracking and bleeding. I used lanolin a bit but LO didn't like it even if I wiped it off. She didn't mind EM but it hurt to apply bc it's thicker. I definitely recommend trying the pads after using breast milk and air drying.
  • What's a vasospasm?

I'll just be the crazy in the corner cutting my nips off.
  • @MK1013 I swear, we are the same person. The vasospasm thing is happening to my left breast. I didn't even realize it was a thing, just thought it was part of the deal, until I saw a link about it elsewhere. Kellymom has suggestions for dealing with it but I have yet to try any of them:

  • I'm also using the Earth Angel stuff. I really like it. But I EP so I don't have sore nippled from bad latch. I guess I use it preventatively. I also use the butt balm for my LO, its great. I love the smell of both.

  • Ice before and after every feeding. That helped me the first 2 weeks. Now I have pain here and there when he has a crappy latch but the lanolin helps with that. I also rinsed my nipples with saline after every feeding to clean them out.
  • Half lanolin, half Aquaphor. I've never found anything more effective.

  • I'll add Aquaphor to the list if EMAB doesn't work.

I have a feeling I'll have a nip cream collection
