MrsCase1's Birth Story

Better later than never, yes?

Remington's birth was blessedly uneventful. Got to the hospital and all checked in on time. Surgery started on time. And for those following my anesthesia saga, it was an all new nurse and she was AWESOME! Got it on the first try and was a very calm and reassuring person. She was also a lot more detail-oriented than my last nurse and gave me info that made me change my pain management route. With Lincoln and I had a spinal and an epi, and she informed me that people with clotting disorders have higher risks with epidurals so while technically it is safe, she likes to give the option not to get one. I knew I wanted to go narcotic-free post surgery so I went with option "B"- a spinal and a "dura morph" which basically meant no catheter in my spine. All they did was tap into it, numb me, and shoot  a bunch of morphine into my spine that wore off on its own the same day. I think it really made a difference with my recovery. Once the morphine wore off I didn't have any narcotics, only ibuprofen, and I swear it enabled me to recover faster!

I did have a slight incident with some Phenergan (sp?) I was avoiding Zofran because it constipates you and I didn't want ANOTHER tear so they gave me the Phenergan and it caused a massive knot in my thigh. And I don't think it worked too great because I puked in recovery. How embarrassing. Oh well.

I got to hold Remington ASAP and she nursed terrific (in the hospital, anyway, home was another story entirely. I will spare you all. :(  )

We ate like Kings in the hospital and the staff was really awesome. Didn't sleep too well since hospital beds sucks but that is a First World Problem. My MIL has been with us for 12 days, which is why I couldn't use the computer. She just went home today. She waited on me hand and foot the entire time she was here so I am pretty scared to face real life with two kids. It was nice being able to just enjoy my new baby without worrying about preparing meals or dealing with a toddler (who, might I add, adores his new sister but hates everyone else on the planet and let's it be known. Ugh.)

So, here she is, Remington Juniper Grace:

  • @kaysa2 Thanks. I know her name is NOT everyone's cup of tea. From the beginning, people have been asking what her nickname would be, as if it was mandatory she would have one. LOL! Seems most people can't bring themselves to call her "Remington" assigning some other name to her instead. It's fine. I know she has a masculine name (so do I) and I grew my thick skin before she came. ;)
