Supplementing?! How??

Ok so dd has been ebf but I'm to the point where I'm ready to start supplementing with formula. Should I start at bedtime? What formula worked best for you? She is so gassy that she grunts all night long and I'm pretty much down to eating chicken with no sauce

Re: Supplementing?! How??

  • DH gives a bottle of formula with the first MOTN so I can sleep and with the hopes the formula will help him sleep longer. It really hasn't extended his stretches of sleep but it has extended mine so I'm happy! I used formula I got as free samples. I know similac has a formula for supplementation

  • We do 2 oz before bed and another 2 if she wakes in the MOTN. We use the Similac for Supplementation. It's in the green packaging. It's working great for us.
  • My daughter refuses all formulas I've attempted. Thinking of mixing 25% formula with 75% pumped breast milk and slowly use more formula.
  • I'm a FF now, but we started supplementing with similac for supplementation and did it at night time. They even make these nice little premade 2oz bottles you could try- more expensive but so convenient, if you have similac coupons you can get a box for only a couple dollars.
  • Are y'all pumping at night when you supplement with formula?
  • Ill have to or ill be engorged big time
  • They also sell a similac for fussiness and gas. It's orange. I use it for my little guy( did the one for supplementation and switched), but it hasn't helped much with his gas and vomiting. I plan to ask the dr.

I have been trying to pump at night, but I end up doing it at only his 12:00 feeding. I always have good intentions to do it again in the early morning, but I'm too tired and lose motivation. I am pretty full when I wake up.

I need to come up with a plan of some sort, too. I need to pump everytime we give him formula and between feedings, but I only have a 1 hr window between feedings sometimes. My milk doesn't fill up that fast so it's hard to figure it out.
  • We have started doing the same as I'm not getting enough milk now that his appetite has gotten bigger. If LO is gassy start on enfamil gentlease. He hates it but it specifically for gassy crying babies and so far it's been good!
  • @danagmauro‌ how old is your baby?
  • DD cluster feeds at night so I BF her one side at 8 then the other at 9 and then DH gives her 2oz of formula at 10 while I sleep so she's really full. I pump like10 mins on each side then crash. DD is 7wks and still gets up every 3 hrs so my milk production isn't affected. It's worked really well for 4 weeks now. I EBF all other times. Good luck!

  • I don't pump. I pump during the day so I like to think that makes up for it. LO still wakes up every 3 hours so I never go too long. One time he went almost 6 hours and I was feeling it
  • Brooke is 7 weeks
