Help with TL HE washer!

Hubby just got me a Whirlpool Cabrio Top loading HE washer. Bless him he didn't know it would cause trouble with CD. I use Tide powder (just bought HE version) and have regular water, may actually border a little soft. I have searched and found 800816353829 different methods people use. I don't want to try all those methods. Does anyone here have this washer and water and found a great washing system? I have seen many saying to use bulky wash because that's supposed to put in the most water. I wash every two days and usually have 15-20 diapers (aios and pockets/inserts). Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help with TL HE washer!

  • I have a Cabrio and don't have any problems with diapers. It's supposed to be one of the best choices for HE washers if you CD.

I only have natural fiber diapers because I don't like MF. That may make a difference, since they can tolerate washing differently than MF. I do an initial rinse without detergent, then a "whites" cycle with Tide powder, then one more quick rinse. I have never had any issues.

  • I almost exclusively use cbis and bamboo inserts but my aios are thx and freetimes. Do you do the rinse/spin, then whites cycle with hot/cold with extra rinse added? Or different rinse cycles?
  • I don't have that particular washer, but I do have a TL HE washer with soft water, and I use Tide powder. I am looking at the manual for your washer b/c I'm curious whether you have these options, and it looks like you do, so, here is my wash routine:

    1. Rinse and spin on cold water. (If you can do a rinse and spin with warm water I've heard that's a great option, but cold has worked for us.)

    2. I do a Whites cycle with custom options: namely, a Presoak and an extra rinse.

I have been using this routine for almost two years and we've had no issues with buildup, ammonia, or barnyard, although the majority of our diapers are flannel flats. Every couple of months I add a 1/4 c. of bleach to the wash load.
  • I do have those options! Thank you so much! How much tide do you use?
  • Typically line 2 on the Tide scoop, up to line 3.

I only use tide to the 1 line, and have somewhat hard water. You typically need less detergent for soft water than hard. So I would start with less and add more if they aren't getting clean, rather than risk buildup and have to deal with stripping and such.

  • I washed last night using rinse/spin cold, bulky items hot/cold, extra rinse using to line 1 on scoop. Smelled a little like detergent when they came out so I think I will use a little less detergent. But they all came very clean! And inserts smelled clean, no urine smells after drying! So I'm on the right track I think! Thank you all so much for your help!

If you're using scented tide, you will have some lingering detergent smell. But I'm glad they are clean. Just keep playing with the detergent amount until you're happy.

  • We have the cabrio as well. Here's my routine:

    1. Quick wash on warm (no detergent) OR cold rinse and spin

    2. Whites cycle (automatically does hot wash/cold rinse with extra rinse)

I have a mix of homemade detergent and tide powder, and I use 1-2TBS

Sorry, I just saw your question! Yes, I do the rinse spin, then the whites cycle. It has an extra rinse as part of the cycle. I've always had really clean diapers. Occasionally, maybe once every 4-6 weeks, I'll use a little bleach, as well.
