poop thread, yours or baby's

I figure as we all give birth and recover, this thread will die, but in the meantime infant poop can be just as confusing as pregnancy poop.

I'm still not back to normal but starting to eat better is definitely making a difference. Charlie and I are trying dairy free for a bit to see of it helps with the mucous in his poop. So far I notice a little bit of a difference, but not enough to convince me to make this a permanent change. Giving it at least a full week if not longer before I call it, though.

How firm should formula fed babies poop be? My kid has play doh like poop, she is 2 weeks old and formula only. Ds had messy looser poop but he was breast fed at this age.

  • @lpetrillo‌ when C was little and ff her poops were a little loosed than play doh but definitely firmer than bf poops.

I've read that it takes 2 weeks of being dairy free to see a true difference. If you can try for at least that long it will give you the best info I think!

I was given a prescription for docusate upon leaving the hospital and told to take it for as long as I took the pain meds. The staff knew full well that I'm breastfeeding, so I can't see why it would be unsafe.

Ditto! I asked and they said absolutely fine.

  • @whoberry I was given a stool softener in the hospital to take and to bring home with me. I think it is colace. I had a c-section but I'm also breastfeeding and the hospital knew that. So I think your fine.

Also, I was having trouble going so I took a laxative one day. Bad idea! I almost didn't make it to the bathroom a few times and LO definitely had feeding interrupted at least once so I could make it on time.

  • I want to be able to poop or fart without it FRIGGING HURTING.
  • I still have an inside baby so this one's just about me... the past two weeks have been the total opposite of what I dealt with throughout this whole pregnancy. I'm going 1-2 times a day and on a regular schedule. Bliss! But I'm terrified of what's going to happen after LO arrives.

  • @CJnKR2014‌ farting is do painful for me too ! Feels like knives in my butt!!

  • LO goes days at a time without pooping then has days of lots of poop. Ped. Is not worried as of yet.. said it should self regulate. Been using Gripe Water b/c she gets real bad gas pains. It seems to help

  • Unfortunately, I was not given a stool softener at discharge so a week ago I gave myself an enema to help things along. Baby was asleep and husband was armed with a bottle in case he woke up. My bum was so sore from being constipated days before that I did not have the sweet relief I was hoping for. Sh@# hurts, literally!

Any other c-section moms have terrible gas after surgery (I'm a week out...)

Luka just projectile pooped at me. Love you too, kiddo.

Why don't they sell liners or something for the PNP changers? Or at least make the lining removable so you can wash it? This makes no sense to me. The thing is already gross looking.

DS is formula fed and his poops are still pretty runny/grainy. Yellow with cottage cheese type chunks. As for mine, I think I ate shards of glass at some point. That's the only explanation. ;)
  • Just want to take a second and give a big ole "Thank You" to all the ladies who suggested starting colace ASAP after a c section. You are all beautiful goddesses and I love you.

As for LO, still having the black/green poops on day 7, just met with a lactation consultant who said it should change as my milk comes in more and the more I can pump and give to him. Fingers crossed!

They do! I got a pack of three liners at buy but baby! Graco I believe. I use it as a liner for the napper part as well.

I went today (3 weeks pp) and think I ripped stitches or something. I'm in so much pain now, it hurts to sit and walk.

I feel so sad for my baby. He was struggling with green poops as a result of me switching sides too quickly so he wasn't getting enough hind milk. That issue has now been resolved. But tonight he has had such bad diarrhea I used 4 diapers trying to catch it all as I was changing him. He was squeeling earlier due to gas, so I'm hoping it was just bad gas and nothing more serious. I'll keep monitoring him. I guess I'm going to have to limit my diet big time.
  • I'm just going to say that listening to a baby cry while trying to poop pp is not fun... The urge just comes on so quickly now, and if I don't capitalize on it, I am in pain... Poor baby just wants to eat and mom just has to go!

  • Just had a baby 2 days ago and had an episiotomy and have yet to poop. I am terrified for when it happens. I was on stool softeners at the hospital and have some at home so I am crossing my fingers.

I love that your kids have synchronized their pooping. Does that happen to all kids? Like women who live together have their cycles synch up? ;)

Given that Charlie poops during most feedings, it was only a matter time before it synced! When C is home full time next week I will let you know if the syncing continues. :)

We have this too. Poor baby seems
To have gas pains I think though. I hope both our babies get to regular poops soon. My milk is just now really coming in so I'm hoping by weekend we have regular poop

  • If it wasn't for this board, I never wouldve guessed to get stool softeners. 4 days PP and finally went. It was painful, but not as bad as it could've been.

As for LO, well she pooped on me as soon as she was delivered (like on my leg on her way out) and then pooped through 4 diapers in a row last night at 2am. I made DH handle that one.

  • My LO is having constipation. She would be in pain crying for 20 mins and the poop usually comes while she is eating or soon after. I dont think i am eating anything that would make her constipated. I stay away from any kind of beans, potatoes, etc. I also stopped taking the iron supplement which i thought was what caused it. Any ideas?
