Pregnant after IF

nausea and eating well?

I am 11wks with twins my belly popped out a bit this week I think I'll have to get new clothes soon. But I am still very nauseated and throwing up several times a week. It's really hard for me to eat much at all, much less take in the amount of calories that I need to for twins. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get some good calories with all this nausea and food aversion? And now that my belly is growing sometimes the feeling of everything stretching is nauseating too. Im just concerned because I would love to be able to give my babies all the nutrients and calories they need!

Re: nausea and eating well?

  • Are you taking any meds? I had a regimen of both diglecis and zofran (two diglecis at night, two zofran during the day) and it really helped. I still was really nauseated and throwing up until 18/19 weeks (sorry for that piece of bad news). Honestly I just ate whatever sounded good and seemed like I could eat. I ate a lot of cheese sticks, crackers, toast, cereal, for some reason Wendy's chicken sandwiches stayed down lol. It was survival mode!!!

  • I was the same way.. Actually I'm still throwing up each morning at 17 weeks. Do the best you can with eating. My MFM told me not to worry about it-- that Id have to basically be in famine for it to affect the babies. I could stomach Greek yogurt. I also did carnation instant breakfast with milk-- for some reason drinking was better than eating. It has 13g of protein in it. So funny about the prior poster liking Wendy's chicken sandwiches bc I had chicken nuggets that Dh got me from there that were heaven one day!! Lol.

Yes! Take the zofran on a schedule even if you aren't feeling nauseated yet. I kept it by my bed and took it, slept for another 15-20 minutes, and then got up and got ready for the day. Otherwise if I didn't "head it off" I always threw up in the shower or as I was getting ready. Then I'd take another one 10 hours later, like clockwork. I still felt nauseated but I wasn't actively throwing up. Diglecis is awesome! I took two at night before going to bed. It is FDA approved- I think it's basically b6 (or is it b12? can't remember) and unisom. It was recommended by both my OB and RE. This regimen made me at least able to marginally focus. I'm a high school teacher, so a very active day-to-day person, and I was dying until this med combo.

  • No advice. I am struggling to get enough in myself. I'm not throwing up, but once I start eating I feel sick. I haven't gained any weight and my OB said by next appt I have to gain at least 1lb!! Sounds so easy, but it's not.

  • I asked for meds and got on promethazine. That helped sooo much.

You're still in the early stages, so I wouldn't make any drastic changes right now. If you're not gaining any weight though maybe add some protein bars and smoothies to your diet?

  • In both my pregnancies I never gained any weight 1st tri. I think that's pretty common but as I got into the 2nd tri I started gaining about 1lb a week. I haven't been too sick during this twin pregnancy but with ds I was very sick.

As pp stated I would wake up take zofran and go back to sleep for half an hour so it would give it time to kick in so I didn't throw up every morning. I also ate whatever I was craving, seriously survival mode. And also constant eating/snacking. I never let myself get really hungry.

With this twin pg I eat about half the portion of what I normally eat but I eat it every 2-3hrs. If I go longer it doesn't stay down. I've been very strict with my eatig schedule and perhaps that's why I haven't been as sick but then I think every pregnancy is different.

I was just wanting to ask this question!! I haven't been throwing up.. but I've had many food aversions and feel so nauseous when I get hungry. Fruit sounds good and bagels, but that's about it right now. I was going to try the protien shakes. I feel like I'm not giving my babes anything good.

@babyksmommy what do you snack on?? I need some grocery ideas.
