Sleep advice?

Ok so LO is about 7 wks old now. The first two weeks she slept in the RnP in our room until we had things in the nursery finished. Then we moved her to her crib which she slept great in (I mean as great as waking every 2.5-3 hrs can be). The past week or two now she has a hard time going back down. I know every baby has those moments where they just don't want to sleep. But this is "won't sleep unless in someone's arms" kinda sleep. As soon as we put her down she's awake 5-10 mins later. I thought maybe reflux cause she sleeps better propped up so we put a wedge under the sheet. No improvement. She's even like this during the day and it's only getting worse. We gave up the past two nights and just moved her back to our room. Which isn't a huge deal but it's still horrible trying to get her out of our arms. Has anyone had luck with being able to get LOs to stay asleep when you lay them down half awake? Any other tips or tricks? Tonight I've been trying to put her in the crib and when she wakes in fusses to just calm her to sleep and put her back again... Over and over. But it doesn't seem to be working at all. Sorry this was long but I'm at a loss. We've even tried a routine. She'll sleep fine for the first stint until her first motn feeding then that's what we go through. Ugh. TIA!!!

Re: Sleep advice?

  • Did she have her growth spurt yet? Sleep is usually disrupted and they just want to be held.

I yate no solid advice but hugs to hang in there. I hope it passes soon.

  • Thanks! Didn't think of that. I know feedings are messed up idk why I didn't think sleep too. She was 3 weeks early, does that play into her growth spurts? Like she would be delayed about 3 weeks? I read a bit about adjusted age somewhere. Like she's developed more as a 4wk old than 7 now? Anyone else hear this too? Maybe we're hitting spurts at a different time.

  • Does she take a pacifier? My son will be in his RNP awake with a pacifier and will fall asleep. Assuming he isn't hungry or overly tired... Then I have to hold him

The best advice I have is to be consistent. If you want to be able to have LO go into her crib half asleep and stay that way you have to stick with it. It usually takes 1-3 days to teach them that is how they go to sleep.

I'm not advocating CIO at all. If LO is crying by all means pick her up and comfort her. But once she is calm put her back in the crib. The first few days will really suck, but the end result will be worth it. I've done this with both my boys and have always been able to put them down while they were still awake. (And DS1 was by no means an easy baby!)

This. We have only made it through the three week growth spurt but it was exactly this for us. It was a few miserable days and nights but has gotten better (the every 2.5-3 hour variety of better). Good luck!

  • I read that you can tell if they are in deep sleep if their limbs are limp. I usually have better luck laying LO down or moving her if she is in deep sleep.

  • @Nikkipal82‌ that's what we currently do. But it takes her forever and sometimes she just wakes herself up in our arms. We tried to swaddle her again last night (we stopped for some reason I can't remember). Didn't get her to sleep in her crib but she did seem to sleep better in the RnP last night at least. Probably just gonna work on what @cnbean‌ is saying. I think I need to really work on getting her into her crib for day naps. I'm just worried about a super cranky baby if she doesn't nap well. Oh well, we'll just wait and see. Thanks ladies!

  • I have no solid advice but we went through this also. Mine is almost 7 weeks and last week she'd fuss and cry once I laid her down. She had to be sound asleep to go into her PNP. All of a sudden this week I can feed her and put her down awake and she will lay there staring at the wall until she falls asleep without fussing. I'd just say keep doing the same thing and the phase may pass. I also second pacifiers. Sometimes mine needs it, other times she doesn't. Good luck!
  • If you are 4 ish weeks past your EDD it sounds like a leap week. Check out Wonder Weeks (I have both the app and the book but the app is sufficient enough, ain't nobody got time to read a book!) and everything will probably line up and make sense for you. I've found it helps with some of my anxiety knowing it's just a ww or growth spurt.
