Working Moms

Bed times/wake up times

Hi all
I will be headed back to work next week and am curious what time everyone's kids go to bed and what time they have to get up in the morning.

My H and I have a little flexibility in what time we start working in the morning and I am having a hard time figuring out what would be best. I am sure it will be trial and error over the next few weeks/months but I was just curious what you ladies do!

TIA!

Re: Bed times/wake up times

  • We go by LO's schedule which means he is down to bed by 630 and he is up anywhere between 4-5AM. It's horrible- not going to lie. But keeping him up later doesn't work, he still wakes up early. So I would advise going with LO's schedule...and either wake up earlier than LO if LO is a later riser and get yourself ready or get yourself ready after LO wakes up if LO is an early riser.

Thank you both! My LO is 3 months. She gets up 1-2 times a night. Right now she is going to bed at 830 and is up anytime between 7:30 and 9:30.

I also appreciate the comment about 7 being early and the time spent with her. Going from being home all day to only spending a couple of hours with her was one of the things I worried about (or more realistically felt bad about). I am glad to hear that it is Okay and I will adjust to that.
  • When my dd is in daycare she needs to be asleep by 6:30 and is up around 5:30 or 6. She just seems to melt down by 6:30! Or, as my husband says she gets OOC, out of control.

  • When my DS was that young, he was going to bed around 8 p.m. DH would dream feed at midnight before he would go to bed. Then DS would wake up around 5:30-6 a.m.

Now we have gotten to the point of a later bedtime. He is almost 18 months and goes to bed around 9 p.m. and up at 6:30 a.m. Sometimes we have to wake him up and other times he wakes up. Usually on the weekends, he will now sleep in until 7 or 7:30 a.m.

  • it will change a million times...right now we are are 16mos old...going to bed at 715ish and waking up btwn 6 and 630. however the last week or so i can feel him trying to push bedtime to closer to 8. at 3 mos, you still have a boat load of wonder weeks and sleep regressions ahead of you...so just let your child dictate what works !
  • My youngest one is 5 months now and goes to bed between 8 and 9 depending on her last nap (which is usually at 5 or 5:30). She gets up twice during the night and then is up for the day between 6:30 and 8:00. Because I have a nanny I don't need to wake her up if she is sleeping in which is nice. My boys (3 and 6) go to bed around 9 and get up around 7 (the little one still naps and the big one doesn't). They have changed their wake up times several times in their aging but bedtime was always between 8 and 9.

We are 7:30 and up at 6:30.  DD is almost 2 and has been on this schedule since she was 5 weeks when I went back.  I was blessed with a child that liked her sleep as much as I do.

This is very similar to us. DS started going to bed at 7pm at around 2 months old when I started going back to work. He would wake up twice which slowly dropped down to once a night and a couple of months ago, he started consistently sleeping through the night.

When he was younger, he would be up for the day around 7am or 7:30am. However a few months ago, he moved into a room at DC where he needs to be there at 7am for breakfast so he doesn't sleep past 6:45am now. We are very strict with his bedtime though and don't vary it even on the weekends (we take turns to get up with him on weekend mornings).

  • Around 3 months DD shifted her bed time earlier to 7:30-8:00. Used to be she would sleep until 8, now she's up between 6:45-7:30 which works perfectly for when I need to leave for work.  She started DC at 12 months and even though she naps well there she often comes home very tired and will be ready for bed between 7-7:30.

Thank you all for your comments. I will go with the flow. Something I have had to get better at since giving birth.
  • The Lil Emperor is now 21 months and we start the bedtime routine at 8pm (if possible) and I aim to have him sleep  by 930. But there are alot of factors that will go in to what time he will actually fall asleep. He is normally up by 7 am but some days he is up earlier and on the days when we have no therapy appointments or I have to go into work late... I let him sleep in :-)
