Soft baby carrier 0-6 months, what to buy?

I have been trying to figure out which soft wrap to buy and I am so confused. The Ergo Baby carrier seems to have fantastic reviews, however when LO is a bit older. I read it's not good for newborns- 6 months.

The moby wrap looks very confusing and too much fabric. While the baby k'tan was on the top of my list, now I am reading that it only really holds baby up to about 10lbs which may be 1 month. I don't want to pay $50 for 1 month.

Do you ladies have any suggestions for soft wraps/carriers for the first 6 months so she can snuggle with me all day?
Thanks

  • The Moby is a lot of material, but once you do it once or twice, it is a breeze. There are some really great videos on YouTube for how to use them. My son napped in ours while I worked until at least six months. We actually managed to use it a few times after that and he is a big boy!

Check out a ring sling. My friend swears by the Sakura Bloom ring slings for those first 6 months and that's what I plan on getting. They're a bit pricey, but I figured if I used it every day it's totally worth it.

  • Moby wrap! I loved mine, although its black fabric and it can get hot when I'm in the sun. I watched YouTube to figure it out and it was easy after the first few times. I wore DS in it until my recent pregnancy. I started wearing him on my hip once he was a year old.

It's really comfortable to wear around even if baby isn't in it.

  • I'm lurking but I have to agree with the Moby.  It's a lot of fabric but it's really not difficult and is so comfy for mom and baby.  I used it every day with DS for naps and probably used until 5 mos.  I then switched to a Beco Gemini.

I loved our Moby. After tying it a few times it became second nature. I did love the Ergo also, but I didn't like the infant insert. My the time DS was 4 months we could comfortably use the Ergo with the insert.

  • I liked the Moby, but did find it a little time consuming to get sorted out.  Maybe I just didn't get the hang of it.

My friend lent me her Beco Gemini, which we really liked.  Right from the newborn stage it was great.  :)

I liked the Ergo and the insert was fine for when DS was a newborn. We have the Moby as well, we never used it.  I had trouble figuring it out and felt like I couldn't do it quickly, it made me feel too uncomfortable to use.

  • Thanks for the info ladies, it seems most people like the Moby. I have also been looking at the Boba wrap which is similar to the Moby but less fabric. My friend in UK said there have been some stories of babies suffocating in them though, so you need to be very careful of positioning.

I will check out the Beco Gemini, but so far its looking like the Boba or Moby.

  • I only had the Moby last time but plan to babywear a lot more this time so I will also be getting a woven wrap, a ring sling and a Tula.

  • I started using my Ergo immediately from birth with the infant insert. I loved it. So comfortable and my husband would use it, too. Doubt if he would have used a wrap.

  • I'm actually registering for two- the K'tan and the Ergo. The K'tan will be for my use (since it's sized) mostly around the house or out and about early on. The Ergo will be for DH to use or bigger walks etc.
  • I had a Moby and loved it. It looks intimidating, but once I got the hang of it it was super easy. I will use it again with this one, because IMO it is quicker than using a woven out and about.

I like woven wraps and ring slings for slightly older babies. I have a hard time getting a good seat in ring slings and my toddler won't have the patience for me to wrap a newborn each time we stop.
  • I guess it depends on how you plan to use it.  If you're just thinking practicalities, I really like my Infantino.  It was less expensive than a Bjorn and can be used in front or as a back carrier.

My friends who subscribe to Attachment Parenting love their Moby and wear my nephew pretty much everywhere, as much as possible.

  • You can buy newborn inserts for ergo. Moby wrap, boba wrap, baby k'tan although it will only be good for a short time

I have a moby and like PPs have mentioned, it's not difficult to wrap but was way too much material for me. Plus, LO hated it. I also have a boba and Tula. They're extremely similar carriers.... The boba has a lot of convent features such as dual buckles and zippered pockets but the Tula is slightly more comfortable. My DH uses the boba while I use the Tula.
  • I have the moby too but I don't use it too frequently. My son gets hot easily and it's a lot of fabric. He loved it as a newborn though! He's almost 4 months and the ergobaby is great. There is a newborn insert but he likes it better without it. His little legs just tuck in and he's happy. It's really not bad for newborns. My vote is really for the ergo because it's the only one that doesn't hurt my back and you can use it forever.

  • I was originally registering for the Ergo and the newborn insert, but my sister-in-law just gave me her old Baby Bjorn with lumbar support, as well as her Moby. The Moby does looks a little intimidating with all the fabric, but I'll just have to figure out how to use it.

  • I know the Moby is a pain to figure out, but it was honestly the most comfortable for us.  We have a Bjorn too and that was far easier to get LO in and out going to the grocery store etc. when she was older.  However, I used the Moby while at home and when we flew at 2 months...

  • Another vote for the Beco Gemini here! I used it from when she was first born and for months after that. Sometimes the only way should would settle/nap was in that thing. Lifesaver!

I also hated the K'tan. I could never get it to work where I felt like we were both comfortable.
