Blended Families

Intro

Hi all! Just got a BFP on Thursday and excited to be back on the bump. We have been trying for seven months and stopped because we're in a custody battle for my twelve year old stepdaughter. Little did we know that we were already pregnant! Anyways, if all goes well next February I'll have a pre-teen/teenager, preschooler and February. My stepdaughger's name is Abby and my three year old son's name is Joel. Anyone have a big age gap between half-siblings? Anyone have full custody of stepchildren. We've wanted this for awhile, but it wasn't until recently that my stepdaughter decided she'd had enough of her mom's shenanigans. We're happy to have her and excited about a new baby.

  • Congratulations on the BFP!!!!   I am due in July with my first, and my sd will be 11 in July.  The only thing I am truly worried about is dealing with the tween meltdowns.  She's had some crazy ones so far.

My DH and I have full custody of SD (her name is Abby, too).  She has not seen her mom since Christmas Day- not for lack of visitation orders, but because she decided to disappear.

  • Our Abby's mom kinda disappeared too. Our SD had been asking to live with us for awhile, and then her mom disappeared and when she came back she tested positive for drugs. So, now she's in danger of losing my SD and her younger daughter. Things are kind of crazy because she's been married to her estranged husband since before my SD's birth, so we're having to establish paternity, etc because my DH couldn't legally even though he's been supporting her for 10 years. Nevertheless, what keeps us going is Abby's desire to live with us. Probably more than y'all wanted to know.

DH and I have been together for 8 years, and married for 5. I started dating DH when stepdaughter was 4 and met her when she was 5.

I'm nervous about meltdowns as well! Luckily, she and our son adore each other, but this will be the first time she's lived with us since his birth. She used to come over the summer, spring break and other holidays, but her mom moved them around quite a bit, so we haven't had something consistent for five years.

  • If we finally get the bfp soon there will be a 9 year gap between dd and LO
  • There is a 13 year gap between my son (2) and my SS (he'll be 15 this fall). DH has primary custody of my SS, though he's currently visiting his mother for the summer.

    Congrats on the new baby!
