Pregnant after a Loss

Panic attacks after loss

Hello everyone! I am currently 5 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, I am very anxious and having panic attacks daily this pregnancy. I had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks in februaury due to a un diagnosed uti and it was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I went into full blown labor and had to stay in hosptial for 4 days and have 2 surgeries. I am so nervous this time around anything that happens I feel so anxious and have panic attacks, I know it's not good but not easy to control. Any one else? Any advice?

Re: Panic attacks after loss

  • Hi there so sorry for your loss. I don't have much advice about panic attacks, but may I suggest that you take a look at some of the PGAL mantras that are in the very top thread. Everyone here can relate to being incredibly nervous.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss, and all the trauma that went with it. I agree with PP that the mantras are very helpful, especially that this is a new pregnancy (completely new!) and the past struggles do not mean you'll have to endure that again. It sounds like your anxiety is really strong and so I think it would be important to also get some help as you make your way through this pregnancy. Definitely talk to your OB or regular doc and see if they can recommend someone to work with about anxiety. I saw a therapist after my second loss and it was very helpful. Good luck!!

I'm sorry for your loss and that you're having panic attacks. I highly recommend finding a grief counselor to work with throughout your pregnancy and call your OB so that they are aware of the attacks and see what the recommend. ((Hugs))

So sorry for your loss, and congrats on the new pregnancy.

Please talk to your OB. Help is out there. Its normal to be scared and nervous being PgAL, but actual panic attacks are beyond that. Your OB should be able to point you towards someone who can help.

    Good luck, and congrats again!

  • I saw and counselor and my situation got less overwhelming. I definitely recommend getting help. Your doctor should be able to refer you. You do not need to wait til an appt. PCP should be able to help or just browse insurance network providers.... good luck, itsvery scary (((hugs))) I had a mmc at 17 weeks, too.

I know you're probably saying 'ok, ok, enough already' to the advice you see a counselor, but I'm going to chime in anyway. How could you possibly go through all that and not have serious fears? But, you shouldn't have to live with panic attacks or completely miss out on the miracle and joy of this pregnancy. Ask your OB for a referral. They probably have a list of grief counselors who have experience with miscarriages. Mine offered me one immediately.
