Fireworks for 4th of July

Just wondering what you all have experienced or plan on doing for LO when it comes to the fireworks on 4th of July? Every year we attend a bonfire on the beach and the neighbors set off fireworks; it just occurred to me that LO probably wouldn't be a fan of the loud noises. I don't know why I didn't give it much thought before. I don't want to stay home and miss out on this tradition so I was wondering.... is anyone else taking their LO's to fireworks for the holiday or skipping it this year? Maybe earmuff's wouldn't be a bad idea?

Re: Fireworks for 4th of July

  • I'm not going because I"m strict on bedtime for both boys. But girls from my moms' group went last year, most used those baby ear muffs.

  • Skipping, only because she goes down by 730 so there is no point in taking her. Definitely next year!

I think in going to get some earmuffs. I know he'll like seeing the fireworks but I have a feeling the noise will be too much. Plus, it would be nice if he fell asleep too. Thanks for the advice! Now I don't feel bad about taking him.

We're going to my mom's for the 4th. LO will be asleep in our PnP upstairs in a dark room on the other side of the house before we do fireworks. No clue if she will actually stay asleep, guess we'll find out soon.

  • I've taken all my kids to fireworks on their first 4th of July. They always love it. DD was the youngest for her first at just over 3 months old. DS2 has actually already seen fireworks at an MLB game and he was fascinated.

  • We won't be going because it is well after his bedtime but if we did go, I would have done the baby earmuffs

  • I'm afraid to even take him outside in my neighborhood on 4th of July weekend. I'm almost afraid to take myself outside.

Glad this was asked because I had never heard of the baby ear muffs. I wasn't sure what to do. My son couldn't handle them so we always stayed home until he was old enough to wear ear plugs. Thank you.
  • We'll probably just take DS1 and leave the baby home with my Mom. He goes to bed by 7:30 and I don't think he'll get much out of the fireworks. We didn't take DS1 until last year.

  • Yup, I'm with @SailorTink‌, we're doing the baby banz headphones! Her picture actually inspired me to get them! :) LO goes to bed at 8 so she will more than likely be asleep, but I kinda hopes she wakes up to see the fireworks. She does NOT like loud noises though, so I would never chance it without the headphones.
  • My son (4) still hates them and sudden loud noises - scares the scrap out of him. We are planning on putting on Bose ANR headsets on him this year so he can watch them. I bet DD will love them since the only things she doesn't like is her brother being upset. You never known until you try...

  • @SailorTink‌ wow that was only a couple weeks ago? I feel like I saw that post months ago!

Baby girl's bedtime is before dusk and I'm afraid to mess with it. I'm contemplating keeping the lullaby machine on (rain noises) to help muffle any local fireworks sounds.
  • Earmuffs and go. We are. I'll probably wear DS2, and he'll fall asleep (he goes down around 7:30 most nights as does DS1). It's honestly easier when they're this age than with a toddler. Carter loves fireworks, but gets a bit cranky at the late night.

  • We are going to my dads and they are allowed to pop off fireworks (the legal kind) on the streets BUT I still want him in bed by 7/7:30 we are trying to get a good sleep routine established.
