3rd Trimester

Is anyone overdue and still exercising?

I've been going to the gym this whole pregnancy.  I'm 39 weeks and continue to workout because I have shown no signs of labor and I feel much better at the gym.  Just wondering if anyone has continued exercising and going to the gym if baby comes later at 41 weeks.

can't help you with that as I'm not that far along and working out had to stop really early on because of the non stop cramps I used to have.

workout+pregnancy+long working hours+tending the house was all too much for my muscles to handle unfortunately.

If your not pushing yourself further and your doc says it's fine I guess your good to keep on going!

    all the best

  • I kept up with prenatal yoga til the end - I made even more time for it once I went passed my EDD and threw in extra long walks when I felt up for it. It helped relieve a lot of the discomforts and I was hoping it would help with labor. I don't see why you'd need to stop exercising after 40 weeks - it would be healthy to keep it up unless you were put on bedrest, right? It's not like you're risking preterm labor :)

  • With DS, I swam 1500m (almost a mile) and went for a 3 miles walk the day of my induction at 41w4d.

  • I went swimming almost everyday the last month before labor. I was 2 days "over due" this last time.
  • Thanks for all the responses.  Its good to hear other are exercising this late in pregnancy.  I've been getting alot of comments at the gym about exercising and its been so frustrating.
  • I'm only 37 weeks, but I am still exercising and intend to do so until he comes. I have to modify a lot, but it helps me feel better. I don't see why you would have to stop unless your doctor tells you its isn't safe.

ah your having the "People Won't Keep it to Themselves Syndrome" the joy. Ignore them, your doctor and yourself are who decide what's best for you. I've honestly had enough from people telling me what to do, think, believe, know, about my pregnancy, my baby, and my future delivery! that I just can't stand it anymore

Ah yes. I get the people at the gym commenting all the time.  Mind your own business people.  It's usually the older women and men.  Just because you/your wife rested on their laurels the entire pregnancy, doesn't mean I have to.

Ah, yes the "OMG, you're pregnant and still living life?!" reaction. Great. I find myself avoiding the general public and social gatherings where I run into people other than family & close friends as the end gets nearer - I just don't have the patience for the "should you be doing that?" "why are you still working/walking/swimming/daring to be seen in public?" "let me tell you all my horror stories from birth and parenting!" crap. So annoying.

Good for you for keeping up with the gym and not letting people's attitudes discourage you. Do you have noise canceling headphones? I got some just to drown out drive by rude comments.

  • I did a boot camp class 2 days before going into labor with DS and walked 3.5 miles during early labor the day I delivered. I also had no signs of going into labor at 39w2d when I went in for my appointment. Dr said my cervix was starting to soften but there was no dilation yet.  Then at 39w4d it all changed and I started having contractions and feeling like baby was coming soon. Sure enough I delivered him at 39w5d. If I hadn't, I would've continued working out until he came.
