I've made a pre conception appointment but I'm secretly hoping that I don't get my period this week and we somehow conceived without really trying! It's scares me to make the descision on my own, I'd rather it be fate

Um... I like having free will, but okay. Parenting involves a LOT of decisions so please try not to be too scared of making big choices.
Have you read the TTGP newbie blog yet? It has some really good info and links.
Unless you are also getting an annual physical/pap, pre-conception appointments are as useless as tits on a bull.
Take PNVs, starting temping/charting, for sure read the newbie thread (guaranteed to provide more info than a pre-conception appt) and then fuck like rabbits during your fertile week. You have a 20% chance of becoming pregnant each month, and it can take up to a year to conceive for a healthy couple.
There, consider your pre-conception appt done.

TTC #1: July 2014 Me: 31 DH: 29
DX (me): Inborn error of metabolism - protein restriction, metabolic formula & weekly blood tests
DNA Results (7/1): DH is NOT a carrier for my genetic disorder!
7/3: Metabolic clinic gave the green light to TTC - holy crap!
@katydid2014 I don't think that rude comment was necessary. @Wine&Cupcakes I'm not an idiot. I know to do everything you've said. I am pretty sure the point of a pre conception appointment is to make sure everything is good to go. I havnt been to a gynecologist in a very long time, so yes it is needed. I have also made a list of tons of questions to ask the doc.
Lastly, thanks so much for the warm welcome. Seriously, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Last time I make a post. Geez
OP, I'll jump on the bandwagon and say you don't need a preconception appointment. Since you did say you haven't seen your ob/gyn in a while it's definitely a good thing you made the appointment so you can be seen for a routine well woman exam, so you can mention TTC then. Good luck.
All doctors are different, so what your gyn considers are preconception visit could be a pap and a pep talk or blood work and expensive labs. I'd skip it.
My doc will just do a pap in the first Tri if you hadn't had one in over a year, but again all doctors are different. Did you ask what will be involved?
And no offense, but fate my patootie. By charting I can try and control our timing and from there it's sperm meets egg. I'll take a more educated approach over a whimsical hopeforthebest every time.
@Joy2611, thank you for your post. I feel that way now as it's our first cycle, and DH doesn't really want to talk about it because it'll make him more nervous, too. It's scary especially when there are so many things to worry about!

This should be interesting. I'm going to make some popcorn and get comfy.
Without talking to my OB about TTC I wouldn't have had the labs run that showed my TSH was jacked up. So I don't side-eye preconception counseling -- I just think if you aren't due for an exam or don't need your BC removed, phoning the office to ask for your doc's instructions should be sufficient. My OB could have ordered the labs and told me how much folic acid he wanted me to take without me coming into the office.
@Joy2611 Thank you for sharing your perspective! The statement in the OP struck me weird but with your additional thoughts I can see where you guys are coming from.
@Cbake016 I find myself confused... what decision are you not wanting to make on your own and why do you need a doc to make said decision for you? Is there a medical issue?
