If you're on the fence don't do it. I would recommend an IUD for a while in the event you change your mind I decide to have another. Even though I know we're probably done after we have our twins I'm still getting a mirena put back in and not messing with a tubal right away.
Well, she said she's having a c section so IMO it's easier to do it then than later or than having DH have a vasectomy (this is what I did). However, OP, the other posters are right - this needs to be something you are 100% certain of. The sex of your children really shouldn't matter but if that's what makes your family feel complete, so be it. I have two boys and as much as I would love more children (boys OR girls) it is not in the cards for us, financially and the odds of me getting accidentally pregnant were higher than the odds we'd ever be in a significantly better financial position so the tubes were tied. I'm sad about never having more kids but understanding our reasoning, I don't regret it if that makes sense.
If you are not 100% sure, don't do it. I'm having my second CS in 4 weeks and plan to have it done. I know we're done with 2 kids so I have no concerns about it. Make sure you are 200% sure!!!
I don't think that asking a bunch of strangers on the internet about whether you should have your tubes tied is the way to go about making that decision. That being said, if you are certain that you don't want any more, having a tubal during your c-section is a simple way to achieve permanent birth control. If you're not certain, don't do it.
Not addressing the issue of whether you should have a tubal ligation at all--obviously that's a personal decision.
But I have heard that while it's "easier' to do it after a c-section, it can lead to more complications than if done at a separate time. While it seems more convenient, I would hesitant to have such a life-altering surgery right after another major surgery. Just something to think about... but obviously its your decision!
That is a decision only you and your husband/SO can make. And even then, you need to be 500% sure you are done. If you have to ask, then clearly, you're not ready to commit to permanent birth control.
I'm doing it. We have 'our pair' but DH and I didn't decide because of that. I decided because DH is an oilfield worker and gone a lot. I know I can easily manage 2 kids by myself. I've always dreamt of myself only having 2 kids. Plus with PCOS, I didn't want to shock my body too much.
My first comment is: if you're not 2000% sure you're done having kids then don't do it.
My second comment is: I am a RN in the OR and I have seen tubals after c-sections, post-partum tubals, and elective tubals. It is by far easiest to get the tubal done after your c-section since the docs are already in there. Plus you most likely won't be put to sleep you'll just have a spinal.
With all that being said, have a discussion with your DH and go from there. If you still question it then don't do it and wait.
I have one of each, they're 5&3.5 years old and everyone always said "you have one of each! Now you can be done!" Well, we're happily PG with #3. FYI, it's not the sex of your kids that decides if you want more kids or not, it's how you see your family dynamic, and no one can answer that but you and your husband/SO.
I did it. Regretted it. Had a tubal reversal (which they said could possibly not take)....I'm 33 weeks now. Moral of story: pray long and hard. Let God guide you but don't do it unless ur 100%. Good luck!!
