Just had to let him cry

My LO is so overtired right now. He's screaming his head off. MH is working so I don't have anyone to tag out with. I've tried everything to get him to calm down and go to sleep. I'm now at the point I just had to put him in his crib, shut the door and not go back in there. I'm just spent, I'm so exhausted him crying is making me want to cry!!

  • Just think, this to shall pass. Sending you positive vibes.

  • Thank you. I need to calm myself down before I can go in there to pick him up
  • Oh.. I feel you.. This was me at 4 this morning when he wouldn't go back to sleep and I was exhausted. MH works nights so it's just me. I had to go put him down and leave for a minute because I could feel myself getting mad and irritated.. It's so tough. No one prepares you for this part! Hang in there mama we will get through it!
  • I don't get it, I pick him up and he goes to sleep. I put him in the crib he wakes up like 2 mins later screaming. He has never been like this before.
  • Hang in there, Mama! Here is hoping he tuckers himself out and gives you a good sleep.
  • ((Hugs)).

I'm in the same boat tonight. DH won't be home from work till some time in the wee hours of the morning and of course DD napped like crap today and she's overtired. We did a bath and I've just been marathon nursing her for 2 hours. Now even that's not keeping her calm and she won't take the paci. So right now she is swaddled in her swing with white noise out in the living room. I can hear her with the door to my room open. She's still "complaining" but the screaming has stopped for now. I'm giving it until she just zonks out and falls asleep there (at this point I don't care where she sleeps) or if she starts going crazy I'll try nursing again. I'm hoping we both just needed a "break" and I can get her down for the night soon. It's tough being on your own. I hope you get him soothed soon!

All AL-ers welcome in my posts! <3
  • Hang in there! This is me too. Definitely stressful and baby's cries hit some sort of nerve. Each cry makes me anxious and jumpy especially after hrs of LO not sleeping, cluster feeding, spitting etc Also doesn't help my feeling like I'm doing something wrong all the time or feeling judged about my ability to take care of him.
  • Worst sound ever. So draining emotionally and physically. (Hugs)

  • Yep same here. He was dead asleep and soon as I put him down bing! His eyes were wide open. Pick him up dead asleep.. We went back and forth 4 times! Needless to say he ended up sleeping in his swing so I could get a good two hours
  • Overtired is so hard because all you can do is wait for them to give in. Ds is in his 6 week spurt and he refuses to nap.during the day and come 730 at night watch out. I just put him in my carrier walk and wait.

    Hugs!
  • He may be going through his 6wk spurt, but I'm not sure because for a week or so he is awake more than sleeping. I'm not good with figuring growth spurts out haha. But he finally gave in. I think we both kind of fell asleep around the same time. I just woke up and he is still sleeping. So that shows me he is really tired. Because he is usually up by now for his MOTN feeding.
  • This is me! Although I have twins I have one baby that won't stop crying! We brought him to the pedi and he thinks maybe reflux which is causing colic so he's now on Zantac and were trying different formulas so far the only thing that is working is wearing him in my moby he only will sleep on me or dh. Hang in there! I cried all morning and thenn I put him in the moby and he fell asleep while the other was asleep in the swing I made toast and had breakfast outside!! Made me feel so much better! Check with the pedi though maybe it's something more than fussiness.

  • I had this yesterday and chalking it up to a growth spurt. If he wasn't Breastfeeding he was crying. Oh hell he was even crying with a boob in his mouth. It was awful. The only positive was he slept through the night because he was so exhausted. Hang in there.
  • Spells like that will come and go throughout thé first year. I always try to remember that for every crying spell like that, they eventually will exhaust themselves and sleep.

    This too shall pass.
