Bloody Nose . . . help please

I have been coughing pretty badly since Sunday night. For the past 2 days when the coughing gets bad, I get a bloody nose.
I have had 4.
I have tried using Aquaphor to keep my nose moist. That seems to work for a while.
I am just looking for more tips and suggestions.
TIA

Quick version: had 4 in the past 2 days. Looking for tips and suggestions to help.

Re: Bloody Nose . . . help please

  • If it's an issue of your nose being dry, try some saline spray. Unfortunately, you may just be bursting vessels in your nose with all that coughing :(

  • Are these bad bloody noses or just slightly bloody. I was getting severe nose bleeds at least one to two times a day last year and had to go to the ear nose and throat doctor and get cauterized on two occasions to resolve the issue. Is the aquifer a saline cream? If not you might try that. Also maybe a humidifier. If it continues I would see an ENT specialist or your doc first.
  • I don't think they are horribly bad. But I have been having them since BFP.
I know they are part of pregnancy, but they seem more frequent since being sick.

  • You could have a capillary that ruptured or is bleeding. I would monitor it and ask your doctor their opinion. Sorry I know how much nose bleeds suck.
  • I have a nose bleed every or every other day. Pinch, hold, tilt your head down (not up- you don't want to swallow blood) and just wait. My doc said they're totally normal.

  • I've been getting nose bleeds pretty frequently...it's totally normal. You can put a humidifier in your room to help with keeping the air moist, that helped me somewhat. I recommend a cool mist one bc you can use that in baby's room later to help with congestion issues.

  • I was getting these really bad during my first trimester.  Now I get about 1 a week.  My fix is to have some tampons nearby.  I snip the end off and stick that up my nose.  It helps it stop bleeding really quickly.  At least I am using up those tampons from before I was preggo. :)

Also, ditto not tilting head back.  I had a really bad one and had blood dripping down the back of my throat even when my head was tilted down.  It was so gross.  I gagged many times because of that.

  • If you're blasting the AC like we are (or if work is) that can be making the dryness worse too. Try the humidifier - especially at night. It can't hurt.

  • Doctor recommended a cool humidifier. DH picked one up and the bloody noses have stopped. It will also be good for baby's room.

I got a few bad ones in the first tri. A humidifier helps a lot. With my bloody noses I've always tilted my head back & pinched with no issue; but the ones I had during first tri had me gagging on blood. So gross. Just try to keep your nasal passages moist & definitely don't blow your nose when it's bleeding.

Fun fact. My dad is an ENT Dr and in high school I had a never ending bloody nose. He had to come get me from school and he cauterized my nose in our kitchen.
