3rd child, making less milk the 3rd time around?

Hi Ladies,

This is my 3rd child... I noticed a decrease in my pumping output (2oz total) vs my second baby (more like 2.5oz per boob) both at the same age. Just curious, any thoughts on why I am making less? I BF my first two until 15 months and my third child was the biggest (9lbs6oz). I am not on some crazy diet and am drinking enough water. What do you think is going on?

TIA

Re: 3rd child, making less milk the 3rd time around?

  • I'm not sure, but I also BF my first two around the same length as your two.  With #3, I was always struggling to keep up with her demand.  She was also 9lbs 6 oz!  But, my DS was 9 lbs 12 oz and I kept up with him just fine.  I have a 12 year gap between #2 and #3 (hence my screen name) and I just chalked my lower supply up to old age (had this last one at 43).  I'll be interested to see other responses.  In any event, LO is now 14 months and I'm still nursing.  I only had to supplement with formula for about a week during that 6 week growth spurt.  With the others, I had so much milk I looked into donating.
