Working Full Time and Being Pregnant

This is my first Entry in a Discussion and I was wondering I feel so alone right now I am 5 months going on 6 and I am working full Time and going absolutely nuts! Not only are my hormones raging but I am working more than I should they are forcing me to come in when I have been sick I am due in October they still do not have anyone to fill my position and act like its not a big deal and the work load is piling on. How are you coping? How are you guys dealing with the Mood swings and the attitude from other people at work some days are ok and others I feel like ripping someones head off! Is there a light at the end of the tunnel :(

  • What do you mean working more than you should?  Are they asking you to work overtime?  Is that typical of your company/ profession?

I didn't really experience attitude from anyone while pregnant and at work.  Sure, there were some iffy comments made, and I had my days of being overly tired, but that is sort of what I signed up for.

Try going to work pregnant and with a toddler at home. Not only do I have to deal with all the pregnancy stuff, I have had to go into work on days when I have been sleep deprived due to waking up at night with the baby. I don't expect any special treatment from my employer for choices that I have made with respect to having children.

If you haven't already done this, I would make a list of tasks that need to occur when you are out on ML. Go to your manager with this list and formulate a plan on how these tasks will occur while you are out.

  •  I work at a law office and unfortunately I am the only one in the whole office that does a particular department no one else here knows it procedurally I have tried to talk to the higher up about trying to cross train someone even though October seems far away for some its really not in a work environment there is alot to do to teach and can not be done in a few months never less a few weeks and how things go here they most likely will end up calling me on my maternity leave asking questions as they do with others.......as for the sick I had the flu a week ago and was advise by my dr to stay home and rest I tried to call out I have over 4 weeks of vacation days to use for whatever we want however my supervising attorney started screaming at me (because I am the only one in this department) and made it very clear that he did not care if I was sick that I had to come in its things like that, that bother me I feel like I am getting overly stressed and over working my self and as for the over time normal days are 6 am - 6pm and some days im told to work until 8pm 9pm and I do live a hour away from where I work so its extremely overwhelming.
  • I was high risk and on modified bedrest and (with doctor's permission) still went to work until the day before DD was born. I was wiped out by 3 pm, usually worked 9-10 hour days, but it was doable. I had a couple coworkers who made me batty so I resorted to putting my headphones on and tuning people out. If that's what it takes to help your mood swings, go for it :)

  • How can you manage to work ellipsis into your wall of text but no other punctuation?

    I agree with everyone else.

However, it does sound like you don't have enough of a work/life balance and it also doesn't sound like you work in a respectful environment. I can't imagine you can or will want to sustain that after the baby is born. I suggest you get your resume together and start looking for a new job.

Also, PLEASE use punctuation. This was very hard to read.

  • I agree with the above.  It won't be any easier once LO is here.  Start searching now.
  • Gosh, I hate to do this (because it will come off sounding like I'm criticizing prior posters and that is not my intention), but I feel like the "I had it really hard too and just made it work comments" aren't super helpful.  Everyone's pregnancy is different--especially with regard to how you feel on a day-by-day basis--and it just may be really difficult for the OP.  This is my second pregnancy, and I can totally relate to the OP.  I just started a new job four months ago, and just found out that I'm 2.5 months pregnant.  (My husband and I planned to try for #2, just not so soon.  We had to try with #1 for several months, so we were pretty surprised by #2 happening haphazardly.)  I have extreme morning (read: all day) sickness, and it is impossible for me to work the way I was before, which makes meeting my billable hour requirement practically impossible.  I lost over 10 pounds in two weeks, can't keep anything down, and have what appears to be borderline HG.  So I can totally relate to feeling bad and not really wanting to doing the work.  During my first pregnancy, I was working for a government agency, and they also failed to find a replacement with enough time for me to train the person, then got upset when I had to leave a week early for a scheduled C-section.

All that is to say, look for another job that treats you better, and for now, do what you can do and don't worry about the rest.  It is more important that you take care of yourself and your baby and get the rest that you need.
  • Yup.  We can only respond based on the info we are given.
