Eye Contact & Smiling

Baby boy is 7 weeks old. He has smiled a few times a week the past 2 weeks. It's not a daily occurrence. And he doesn't make a lot of eye contact with me. Is this normal at this age? Anyone else have experience to share?

Re: Eye Contact & Smiling

  • Normal. There's a big range. The 3 month mark is the *actual*ilestone marker.

  • My girl will make eye contact all day with Daddy...avoids my eyes like the plague. No smiles yet unless she was peeing/pooping/farting. Shes 5 weeks tomorrow.
This is same for me too! She loves staring at Daddy, but refuses to look at me.

Glad I'm not alone. I only get it when making very different voices reading a story or changing a diaper. Think he's just used to my voice all the time?

  • My girl is 5 weeks tomorrow. She has been smiling at me all week with some eye contact. Usually I get the most right after a nap or right after a feeding if she hasn't fallen asleep.
  • It usually picks up somewhere around7-8 weeks, but there is a big range of normal. I get the worry, believe me (DS has autism), but it's still early.

  • DO is 7 weeks and makes a lot of eye contact with anyone. The smiling kinda happens, especially if a poop is coming.
  • I was able to get several smiles in a row today by making one funny noise to her over and over again. She loved it. I will snap my fingers and call her name and make sounds sometimes to get her to look at me and she ignores me. I think it's totally normal

    It's a BOY

  • Thanks for all the replies! Puts me a little more at ease.
