Cloth Diapering

Rain on Diapers

I know we discussed this at some point awhile ago, but I forget the consensus.  I just hung diapers on the line and 20 minutes later we're getting hit with a huge thunderstorm (freakin' weather.com.  you LIE!).  So 2 questions:

1.  is there any reason I have to go out and get them now, or can i wait for the storm to pass?  I don't really feel like standing out in the rain to take down already soaking wet diapers.  i mean, rain isn't going to do anything to them, right?
2.  what do I do with them after?  throw them in the dryer?  quick rinse?  full wash?

Re: Rain on Diapers

  • I probably would leave them til it stopped raining (as long as it's not gonna rain for three days or something).  And probably re-wash them, just to make sure there's no chance of mildew forming or something.

  • I just leave mine out there until they dry. Or at least mostly dry. If you put them in the dryer without at least doing a spin it will take forever.

  • I'd leave them until it stopped raining and do at least a quick wash.

Rain is slightly acidic compared to water.  I would at least do a rinse.

  • They will probably also be a little dirty. Raindrops nucleate on dust particles.
  • That's a mighty big word. :)
  • I'd just throw them into the washer for a quick rinse and spin.....unless you know the birds took aim.

I had a couple pool towels on drying on the patio chairs last night and it rained. They smell so good. I'm not washing them, they got washed in the rain last night. But I'm lazy too
