What kind of bottles are everyone using? I plan on breast feeding/pumping and have put off deciding on any because choices are overwhelming! Everything I read has pros and con's for everything!
From what I hear, all babies like different kinds of bottles...So i got a few of several different kinds.
- My OB recommended Tommy Tippee because it was more like my nipple shape
- The lactation nurse at my breastfeeding class said that most babies she knew loved the Playtex
- My sister's baby only will use Avent (I think that's the name?)
I may have gone a bit over the top, but I have several girl friends having babies around the time I am and if DD hates any specific bottle, I'll just give that pack to my friends. I hear a ton of mom's love the Dr, Brown's. but that they are annoying to clean because of all the parts.
Like PP I'm getting a variety until I know what LO will like. I've got a couple Avent that I got free from Motherhood and I have one other one that was used during a game at my shower...can't remember, but I think it's Playtex. Then I have several Tommy Tippee and I plan to get a few Dr. Brown's as well.
My DS used Playtex Vent Aire. He was able to switch back & forth between bottle & breast with this one. However, they have changed the nipples, and no longer fit on my bottles. My son absolutely would not take NUK bottles, nipples were too big & wide. He would also not take a standard paci and only liked the soothies.
We registered just for Dr. Brown's since my brother and SIL had a good experience using those for their little boy. Although if this kid hates them, then we will just grab a pack of the next bottles on the shelf and try those - probably Avent or Tommy Tippee.

Was it a long analysis for your OB to determine this? I feel like I'd wonder how long they were looking for...haha
Hahahh this really made me giggle. Especially because my H thinks my OB is a dirty old man. He has told me numerous times that I have "wonderful nipples" and that my LO will attach beautifully. I looked at the Tommy Tippee bottles, and they do kind of look alike. I just say, he is a sweet old man and has been looking at nips for quite some time.
DS used Avent, so that is what we are trying this time around too, though I'm using their newer style bottles that are supposed to be better for breastfed babies. I figure unless she really doesn't take to them, that's what we will stick with.
We registered for small amounts of a few different bottles. Tommy Tippee, Dr. Brown's, Avent. I am leaning away from the Dr. Brown's, unless there is a real need for them, because I have heard about the hassle of cleaning them.

That is super creepy! I have a female OB, but I honestly can't think of one time that she has even seen my nipples!
My DD was fine with almost any kind of bottle, but she had a strong preference for nipples made of the opaque beige rubber stuff, rather than the clear plastic-y kind (technical terminology). We just used the Medela pump vials with a nipple screwed on at first, and you can get either kind of nipple for those, but it didn't take us long to figure out that she would only use the one kind.
I decided on glass and am starting with a set of 3 Born Free and 2 Dr. Brown's. I have used Dr. Brown before with the kiddo I nannied for and they were awesome. I really didn't mind cleaning all the parts and I could easily bust through cleaning in the first 10 min of his nap time.. I wanted to try Born Free just because they have less parts though
@stoofewok ! The pura kiki bottles are awesome! I was looking for something other than plastic and the fact that these work for sippy cups later is great!!!! Even if Henry doesn't like them as a bottle they won't go to waste later on! I absolutely have a fear of buying things that baby will not like and wasting money. Multi purpose is a great way to go!
I picked Dr. Browns. I got two starter packs and some 3-bottle packs. I will start with one of the 3-bottle packs in case I need to return, but my mother, MIL, and everyone from their generation thinks that giving a baby a choice of bottle is ludicrous. Since my mom is going to watch her when I go back to work PT, she will be the one giving her most of the bottles (I will BF the rest of the time). I have to pick my battles with both the baby and my mom

It seems every baby/mommy has their favorites, but both my kids used and liked Gerber Nuk. We tried a few more expensive & complicated ones, but they both did just fine on the Nuks. I plan to use them agai.
With DS i didn't make a connection with his constant puking could be because of gas in his belly. I had one set of bottles that i had gotten because i planned on using the same companies pacifiers. He seemed to take the bottles just fine but later he'd spit up a lot.
This time I have a few different bottles. I've got more dr browns glass bottles, a few avent, a born free (simba bottle FI choice), and some Similac bottles which have an insert that is supposed to help mix formula. Iplan to breastfeed however I may run into issues like i did DS (allergic to milk protiens) plus I found the Similac bottles on clearance...i also have a sampling of various bottles such as the lansolin boob bottles and Tommy tippee (these I've heard mixed reveiws on)
I am planning to use Dr. Browns but kept them in the package until I make sure she likes them. I got 3 free from different things so I will test them out first. I also have 3 free NUK bottles from the packs Motherhood Maternity gives you so I will use them as well, as long as she likes them. I have heard that the Tommy Tippee aren't so good once baby gets a little older because the nipples don't stand up to harder sucking. I have no experience but have been told by friends so I'm not sure how true it is. The Dr. Browns have lots of parts but so many people have had great success with them that I will sacrifice having extra to wash, lol.
After 6 losses, we are so happy to have our rainbow baby!

DS used tommee tippee on the lowest flow nipple until I took bottles away at 1 year old. He only took bottles at daycare and I breastfeed him all the other times and he did fine.

We have the evenflo glass bottles. My mom saved them for 30 years from when I was a baby and gave them to me when I was pregnant with DD. We found a nipple she accepted that worked with them (Dr. Brown's silicone preemie, then stage 1 nipples) and went with that. We occasionally used the Medela ones that came with the pump too, but I much preferred glass bottles to plastic ones. They were easier to reheat, but also they dried off in the dishwasher while the plastic ones still had to go on the drying rack after.
we used Evenflo- some glass, some plastic, with my son. And the stage 1 nipple they came with. I think he used a combo of the latex (tan) and silicone (clear) nipples. I am planning to reuse those, but buying new nipples (same style, just fresh!)
I had only purchased Tommee Tippee Sensitive Tummy bottles (similar to Dr Brown but less pieces). DS took to those just fine thankfully-- bottle fed for 9 mo while also nursing until 13mo. I'm hoping DD takes to them as well, if not a shopping I will go.
