Puppp and prednisone

Is anyone else suffering from this? It started around 31 weeks just on my stomach but has now spread all over my body. Awesome right?! I have tried so many different creams/ lotions/baths etc. My doc prescribed me Prednisone on Monday and so far I haven't seen any changes. I had never taken prednisone or anything like it before so I'm not sure how quickly it starts to work. Any ideas? If you have found something to help, please share!!

I had PUPPS my last pregnancy, I am so, so sorry you are dealing with this! My doctor never offered prednisone for it though, and since I have taken it in the past a couple times for my asthma, I don't know that I would have felt comfortable taking it had they offered it.

That being said, when taking it for my asthma, it helped almost immediately. I had to take it on 2 separate occasions and only for a few days to open up my airways when they were really bad. The reason I'm so wary of it, is weaning off the pred was HELL for me. I felt like an insane person, literally felt like I was losing my mind. Emotional, paranoid, aggressive, just weird. The second time it was prescribed to me I actually started crying immediately in the doctor's office because I didn't want to have to go through that again.

However, I am not a doctor, nor a pharmacist, personally I have no idea how safe it is during pregnancy, I could have been on a much higher dose than you are, etc, I'm just sharing my experience with PUPPs and prednisone, albeit they are totally separate experiences. I sincerely hope you find some relief! Every time my lower belly gets itchy from my stretching belly I find myself checking for the rash in the mirror, hoping I'm not getting PUPPs again this time :(

The main thing that helped me was avoiding getting too hot (so cold showers, ugh!) and ice packs. But I only had my belly affected until delivery, then I had a bad flare up on my legs and arms as well after I gave birth. It ultimately cleared up a couple weeks after DS was born. No fun. Again, I'm SO sorry you're dealing with this, and hope you find something that helps!

  • I started monday at two 20mg pills a day for 7 days and then it goes to 1 20mg pill a day for another 7 days.

  • I'm also dealing with PUPPs. I am currently awake when I should be sleeping because the itching is so bad. My doc told me Benadryl and lotion, but nothing works. I'm so frustrated and only 33 weeks 6 days.
  • I took prednisone for poison ivy once.  All I remember is it took a couple days to start to see a difference.  I also took a much higher dosage because I wasn't pregnant at the time.  It could be since it is a lower dose, it may take it a little bit longer to work.  I would be careful, because one of the side effects is hunger.  They weren't kidding!
