Feels like when baby moves for the 1st time

This is my first pregnancy and I'm now at the stage where I should be able to feel the baby move but I don't know what to expect the feeling to be. Could someone describe the feeling to me? I have been feeling I would say popping sensations in my stomach or feels like I'm being thumped from the inside. Is that what it feels like?

Re: Feels like when baby moves for the 1st time

  • I think I felt little munchkin for the first time yesterday to..kinda felt like bubbles...is that what it felt for you?  I'm hoping it was LO and not gas haha..

  • Lol I'm hoping it's not gas either but I think bubbles are a good way of describing it too.
  • Bubbles, waves, popping, thumping. All those words fit it. Sounds like you're feeling little movements :)

  • I was expecting bubbles and popcorn popping sensations, but I knew for certain it was baby when I felt thumping :)

  • Sounds about like what I have been feeling here and there the past couple days.  I am still not 100% sure yet either,   but I think I am feeling enough of it, often enough to convince myself its baby, and not just gas  :)

  • I'm 19w FTM too, think I could be feeling LO.  I'd say ripples is a good desriptive word for what I'm feeling.  Almost sometimes like I have to pee too but I definitly don't.  Sometimes it feels like gas, and actually is....but sometimes it's not gas.

  • I too felt popping sensations and at first I wasn't certain since it could be gas bubbles. But these sensations are happening in random places, places that are away from my actual stomach and too close to the surface to be my guts. Now I know for sure that those were the baby.

So at first I thought I felt baby but wasn't sure. But after a week or so I now definitely know. It felt more like that game with the bubble in the middle. I think it's called trouble? Now for the first time yesterday and today I actually felt baby right below belly button. I sat there reclined, with shirt over belly and I actually saw my belly move! It was only once but it was awesome. I'm a bit chubby so I wasn't expecting to feel so soon. But as long as I'm still and semi reclined I can feel baby. I love it.

  • I am just feeling baby too I think. I would describe it as bubbles or ripples.

  • When I first started feeling movement it was isolated pressure followed by flutters, almost like a muscle spasm. Some of the movements have developed to full on thumps though!
  • When my LO moves, it feels like thumping, and it's really strong at times. I felt like baby falcon-punched me in the ute yesterday at a hockey game. Looks like this one's going to grow up to be a goon.

  • Really early on I would descibe the movement as feeling kind of like blood pumping. I spent a couple of weeks wondering if it was baby because it was always when I was trying to fall asleep. Then at 16 weeks I was wide awake sitting still at the computer and felt it again and smiled realizing I had been feeling baby for 2 weeks already. As things got stronger I would describe it as feeling more like a localized muscle spasm. Now at 21 weeks she is moving a lot and it feels like a mix of a lot of feelings depending on her movements.

At first it felt like a fish was literally swimming inside me, and also it does feel very similar to gas, but you don't have to fart. :)

Now I feel full on movment and kicks that I can't really explain because it's nothing like you've felt before if you haven't had kids.

I've felt things that feel like blood pumping (maybe 3 or 4 times in a row), but I've never read or heard movement described like that, so I figured it was something else.  My mom and MIL occasionally ask if I've felt him move, and I've said not yet, but maybe I actually have!
  • It feels like I am going to fat, but then nothing comes out. Apparently he is confused about where and when to exit the building!

Feels like little bubbles or poprorn popping. I love it!
  • I am just feeling it for first time this week! Baby is kicking away now and it almost feels like nervous energy in my stomach. But every once in awhile it will be a big kick - my hubby actually felt it tonight too. I only feel it at night when I lay down. I also happened to have a large PB sundae so it could be experiencing a sugar rush!!!
  • I'm pushing 18 weeks and haven't felt anything yet but had a stomach virus so it was hard to differentiate the cramping and movements for that vs my baby. Is it possibly still
too early?? This is my first pregnancy... I really wanna feel him move I hope nothing is wrong :( any thoughts ??

Don't worry... I think everyone feels these sensations at different times. A friend of mine did not recognize movements until 23 weeks.... Which is fairly normal, once you recognize it you'll be like oh yah, I felt that a few weeks back :) as with life everything happens differently for everyone. Remain positive... Soon enough you'll feel him/her.
  • I would describe what I've felt so far as someone giving me a little poke. It's really strange b/c I almost ALWAYS feel these after lunch sitting at my desk. Really not any other time. Hopefully it will become more frequent as I get further along.

The first time, it felt just like @econosaurus said- tapping fingers. This week it feels like tapping on my pubic bone, kind of! Especially when I was exercising the other day. I love it. Good motivation to exercise :P

  • I'm pregnant for the first time and just over 18 weeks. yesterday I felt like something rolling inside. Like the baby was turning or something. Felt like ur tummy rumbling when ur hungry but I was completely full. Is this normal??
  • I'm a FTM and 18 weeks.  I felt the baby move for the first time last night (so exciting).  I felt a few little pokes when I was laying down...like the LO was just saying hi.  :)

  • I'm bumping this up because I am wondering if what I am feeling is the baby moving. (sorry to resurrect this post, but I haven't seen this described so thought I'd ask).

FTM, 20 weeks tomorrow. The only "movement" I feel is a sudden urge to pee, and then its gone right away. Think this could be baby kicking the bladder? I definitely haven't felt any kicks or pokes. MAYBE some rolling at 3am last night? I'm so not sure..
  • I feel the same thing, I'm pretty sure it's baby kicking my bladder. Sometimes he'll sit on my bladder and not move and it's really uncomfortable. As far as other movement, I feel pretty clear kicks . When I put my hand on my belly when he kicks I can feel him on the outside. When it first started It felt like popping. I love it (:

I don't know for sure, but I've had feelings like this too a few times.  After the usual measures didn't stop the feeling, I told my husband I thought the baby was kicking my bladder.  Seems possible anyway!
  • It's frustrating because I get so jealous hearing about all the "wriggling, rolling, kicking babies." I don't know if that is what I, feeling or I'm just hoping to feel it so I'm imaging that's it.
  • Ya I was telling people it felt like someone playing the trumpet inside my belly lol. Sometimes it feels like I'm on a roller coaster and now it feels like straight up kicks.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing as you ladies. FTM, 22 weeks but obese so not surprised that I hadn't felt anything...though the last couple days I've been noticing more popping feelings than the normal "stomach drop" and churning I was feeling. I also kept feeling insane pressure like little man was beating my bladder. Sure enough 20w scan showed him World Cup style kicking my bladder. He's facing down and refuses to flip so I'm thinking the movements I've been thinking in feeling are def him and explains why I don't feel anything on outside
  • I thought mine was just gas as well, but I'm convinced it's the little one now. Last time I felt it I looked down and saw my belly moving too! :) I'm 21 weeks
  • I'm feeling "bubbles" that could easily be gas but then no fart (TMI sorry). Think that could be baby?
