anyone heard of or used centering pregnancy model of care?

It's an option at the MW practice I use. Basically, instead of private appointments, your "centering group" has a longer time slot ie 1-1.5 hours. Everyone sees the MW for a private checkup but there is a group discussion time, presentations, etc.

I can't decide if it's right up my hippie alley, or if it would be like getting stuck on the 1st tri board at every appointment. Any experiences?

    They offer it at my office but I skipped it last time. I think I prefer skipping it again but I could see it being helpful for a FTM or a great way to meet other people that could turn into friends that you could have play dates with :)

    That's fascinating... Do you have to commit to it? Can you go once or twice and then decide? Maybe observe a current group before you join one in your gestational age? I agree with mayaruth81, it could be a great way to meet other moms.

    The hospital where my OB delivers offers it, so I might consider it in addition to my OB appointments mostly because it would be nice to meet other moms.

    LOL, I would opt out of it. I think if you had some questions, you could either talk to your doctor or come to us. I wouldn't want to hear women bitch about how morning sickness sucks every month, or how they have RLP, or bad acne..etc. You get my point.

    I get that, but the vibe I get is that it's more of a directed discussion vs a chit-chat time? I don't know.

    This!  Definitely report back.

    It's worth a shot since you are interested.  If you find that it's not for you, then opt for individual appts only.  I think for making mommy friends with same age babies, I will probably try Meetup mommy groups down the road.  For the pregnancy journey I'll look to my friends who have been there already and you guys/the internet!
