If you are in your third trimester, are you doing kick counts?

  • My doctor told if I am feeling her regularly through the day I don't have to but usually at night she bounces around and more than gets in her kick counts so I don't usually have to count

  • That's how I had been up to this point, @MrsHamon09. Usually, he's so active in the evening that I don't have to even think about formal kick counts.

My doc did ask me to keep a formal count after my hospital stay, though, so I am keeping a log once per day.

I don't track them formally, like writing them down, but I find myself doing the kick count at least twice at day. This baby for some reason has "lazy days" and it is driving me crazy so I try to count the kicks morning and nights in order to keep myself from having a panic attack. Still sometimes I find the baby doesn't move in hours and I don't rest until at least I feel a couple of kicks... I have found myself twice in the hospital because of this, but the baby seems to be ok. He/she just refuses to move. The doctor told me sometimes this happens and it is not a cause of concern if everything else is ok... Just not safe for my sanity...

  • @voplo - Those quiet stretches are nerve-racking! This one must sleep for good chunks of the day, because he will go for a long time being really still. Then, later, he does gymnastics. :)

Haha mine is just as quiet as it gets. I hope he/she is not just reserving the energy for when is born....

Please, please do kick counts everyone. It's how I knew something was wrong with Lucas immediately. Even though it didn't save him it saves lots and lots of babies.

  • I chose ss because I'm not in third tri but was curious about the results :).

BFP 3.31.2014 EDD 12.10.2014 Baby boy Carlson born 12.19.2014
  • This little guy moves all the time, so I think I have only done formal kick counts twice and it's been on days where he has been extra quiet. Normally I feel him off and on all day so I don't worry too much, I am also having weekly NST's and BPP's so I know he is doing well pretty regularly.

  • She's so active that I haven't been keeping track of it formally, but probably will soon. Whenever my PGAL brain kicks in I nudge her and she responds within 30 seconds, as though she's telling me to calm down and let her sleep :)

Same here.  I am so overly paranoid about this, and I'm only 23 weeks.  I am so much more aware this time around!
