So much information!

I had my anatomy scan last week and the radiologist didn't tell me much, other than I had a large ovarian cyst and that she'd be writing up a report for my doctor.  Well, today I had that appointment.  The baby is perfect.  They were able to get all the pictures they needed and he/she looks great.  My maternal serum screening/NT results were back, too, and they came back low risk for all chromosomal abnormalities, which is great.

And then they got to me.  Apparently, I have a large, 10 cm cyst on my ovary (which I already knew), two fibroids measuring 3 and 4 cm respectively, a low-lying placenta and an inflamed cervix.  Yay me.  She told me that the cyst, while quite large, was probably benign, the fibroids were small so she didn't foresee any issue with them, the placenta would, in all probability, resolve itself and seeing as I tested negative for STDs, she has no idea why my cervix was inflamed.  She called the issues more frustrating than worrisome.  So, my next appointment is with a gynecological specialist, just to make sure things are as not worrisome as she made them out to be.

On the plus side, because they need to check the placenta again, I get another ultrasound in September, so I get to see my little bean again before the big day.

Re: So much information!

  • Yay for a healthy baby! Will all those issues prevent you from giving birth naturally? If it does, can they take everything out while you have a csection?

Thanks, guys.  I feel better now that I've seen the doctor.  I had googled large ovarian cyst after my scan on Friday.  It was not a good thing.

@Maelara she did say that if the placenta doesn't resolve itself and move higher, I'd need a csection because it could block the way out for the baby and detach prematurely from my uterus.  That's why I need another ultrasound in September - to see whether it's moved or not.  And, I think that the cyst, because it's so large, could also block baby's path out, but that wouldn't be apparent until delivery.

The fibroids only become a problem if they grow too large and crowd the baby out.  They might cause early labour then, just because there is no more room in the uterus.  But, she says that mine are small, so she's not concerned about that.  Otherwise, fibroids are harmless.

I'll know more when I see the specialist in 3 weeks.

That sounds so scary. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. This should be a happy time not a time to think 'what if' the whole time. We are here for you to vent too :)
  • I hope everything resolves itself in September!! Until then try your best not to worry, I know it must be hard...
