Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Lip Tie question

I'm fairly certain my son has a lip tie.  I just noticed it a few nights ago.  he's 4.5 months and has no problems latching and nursing.  Is this something I need to worry about?  Should I call the Dr?
So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Lip Tie question

  • My niece had a lip and tongue tie but she couldn't nurse and it required a procedure to correct.  No one caught it at the hospital which was surprising.

I would call the doctor and have them take a look.

I'm glad that your son hasn't had any issues with his lip-tie at this point.  My little guy was slightly tongue-tied (which they caught at the hospital) and we had it fixed on our way home from the hospital at the local pediatric ENT.  The procedure took less than a minute.  Not sure what possible complications can result of a lip-tie but if you're concerned at all, call an ENT or make an appointment to have it looked at.  GL!

My DD has an upper lip tie and the ped said it was not necessary to do anything unless it causes problems down the line to which a dentist would determine. If it's just the lip it doesn't cause issues with latching, when the tongue is involved they have issues.
