Update: Swollen leg, sitting in ER. T&Ps please

I didn't know where to post this. I searched swollen leg in a few posts. I'm sitting in ER waiting to be seen now bc my right foot and calf is about double the size of my left. Called OB and they sent me to
ER to have it checked for clots. I'm feeling scared. Anyone else have this? I could use any prayers you can send up.

UPDATE:

Doc said no clot but lots of swelling in my right leg and blood pressure up. I have to follow up next week at OB. If still swollen, then have to go back for another test. Doc said I'm doing too much and I need to rest. Between this and the baby blues, I'm having a rough first few days home. Prob the extreme lack of sleep plays a role.

Here is some more pics of squish bc I haven't done birth story yet.

  • So you are very likely going to get an ultrasound (doppler) of your leg.  If they can visualize a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) they will start you on anticoagulation therapy of some kind.  You may need to stay in the hospital a day or two while they start and monitor the effectiveness of the medication and your response to it.  You will also need to go home on some long term therapy.

If they are able to see multiple clots or if you are high risk they would consider placing a filter in your right inferior vena cava (a pretty simple procedure - not a surgery), but that is unlikely if it is single thrombus below the knee.

I know this is weird to say, but it is a really good thing that you had symptoms and were able to get the ED.  Hopefully, they can treat it at this stage and you can get back to snuggling your LO pronto!

Please let us know how you are doing when you can!

ETA: I should note that in addition to being an internet stranger, I am a cardiac care nurse who takes care of many DVT
and PE patients. I don't want you to think I'm just crazy ranting lady consulting Dr. Google!
    Thank you.
That made me feel a little better.

  • Hang in there mama! Your squish is super cute!
  • One of my legs/ankles/foot swelled up awfully bad two or three days after I got home from the hospital. It was horrible and lasted 9 days or so. The other foot was slightly swollen, as well. I looked it up in Google and the web said it was all the fluids I'd received during the labor (IVs) and extra blood that used to pump to the uterus settling with gravity / no where else to go. It was apparently a sign I was doing too much during the recovery period and is been on my feet too much. I really had to lay down, put my feet up and let others do things around the house for me. Try to do the same and over time it goes away. If this is what is happening to you, know that I know how uncomfortable it is, but it does go away in 7-10 days if you can stay off your feet enough!

I'm going to really try to stay off my feet. It's hard for me. Especially with a 3 year old. I don't like to ask others for help, but I'm going to have to.

  • Glad to hear it wasent a clot. I had one with DS and it was awful but I got through it with anticoagulants and getting ready to deliver baby # 2 with so far zero complications.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
