Have you been dreaming about babies for as long as you can remember, or did your biological clock start ticking away later in life and throw you off guard?

In my younger years, I never imagined I would have kids. I really didn't meet anyone that I would be happy to partner with to raise children, and was living a pretty hedonistic lifestyle. I had a great career, I was semi-nomadic, and loved doing my own thing on my own time, which often included things like rugged backwoods hiking and staying in bed until 2:00pm reading books until my eyes blurred.
I was 30 when I got married, and it was shortly after that we decided we wanted to try for kids. I have to say, I do miss my old life quite a bit sometimes, but I love my kids... and now the baby fever is in full force. I'm not sure how I can have baby fever while I'm pregnant, but there you go.
Long story short, No, didn't see myself as a parent for a very long time. But now that I'm in my mid-30's it is very demanding.
Nope not really. It just wasnt for me... until I met DH and we got married. I still wasnt 100% convinced. But the more he expressed his desire to be a dad, the more I got into. After my first pregnancy it hit me how much I wanted it.

Yes. When I was a little girl, whenever teachers would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said a mommy. And a teacher. And now I can be both! :-) Looks like my childhood dreams are becoming reality. (Well, except for my 12 year old dream to be a marine biologist.)
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

@jen_and_scott: That's me exactly! It has always been something I knew I wanted to do.
@thegoodpotato: Isn't it amazing how much your mindset can change once you find the right partner? Ever since I turned 30 and got married to a man who I KNOW will be an amazing father, my baby fever has multiplied ten fold.
@jaztaz1: Those boys sure can be a game changer, can't they?! One night, after we had been dating awhile, my hubs expressed his desire be a dad. He talked about teaching them sports, rough housing with them on the floor, and tucking them in at night. I swear, my uterus twitched with happiness.
@tweek137: At least you guys are going with the flow! What a surprise!
@cls71: Wow...12 years! It really says something that it was just the two of you for that length of time. You must absolutely love being with him, and I'm sure you've had your share of adventures together. (Psst...the pic in your siggy is so cute!)
@2013sarabelleATX: Everything can change in the blink of an eye, huh?!
Yep! Use to dress up my friend's cat in her baby clothes from attic. Babysit in high school but partied too
When I would go to weddings I end up holding other people's babies I don't know. Last year at a party I asked someone that I kinds knew if I could change the diaper and put the pj's on. Lol. She said wow...no one has ever asked that! Go right ahead. Yep I'm a baby hog!!

DE IVF #1 (4/26) BFN DE FET #1 (6/4) BFP! Beta 1=339 Beta 2=852 Beta 3=9957 EDD 2/22/15!!
@wintersong139: Hi, due date buddy! Yay for childhood dreams becoming a reality!
@FlowerPower16: Wow, three kiddos? You're brave! I'm going to start with one and see how it goes. My hubs wants 4. Yikes.
@KiaE3620: I always said I wanted to have kids when I was much younger than I am now, but it wasn't meant to be. If my teenage self knew that I was 30 and just starting a family, I'd probably be mortified by how "old" I am. Funny how things change.
@BeckyP005: When I was little, I used to dress my cats up in baby doll clothes, too! Oh my. I remember laughing until I had tears in my eyes. They couldn't even walk because the onesies were so tight. Ha! I'm right there with you on the baby hogging front. One of my best friends just had her first baby, and I'm constantly stealing her away. I have no shame.
Always thought I'd have kids eventually but didn't start getting excited/really wanting one until a year or so ago. By age 27 I decided that 30 would be a good time to start. I'll be a few months from my 30th birthday when this one arrives.
Nope. I was certain I wasn't having kids up until my dad got cancer and passed in 2011. During 3 months as his care taker I changed my mind. Mainly because it was so hard watching someone so amazing leave. My kid will be a part of him
@sweetdreamz6700: I'm sorry about your dad. Being a caregiver is an incredibly hard job, and I give you so much credit. I'm sure he will be watching over your little one(s).
Nope, never ever planned on or thought I wanted kids. Raised only by my dad (my mom bailed) so I never really had a mother figure, I guess that's why I never had the strong desire, who knows. I've always worked in child care centers and as a nanny. I LOVE kids, I just never wanted my own! When I was around 28 and had been married to the man of my dreams for a couple of years, I just felt this urge and desire to have a baby! I guess that's the biological clock women had always told me about! Now that I'm knocked up, it still doesn't feel quite real, I planned this, but I'm still shocked! In the very back of my mind, I get nervous that I'll leave like my mom did, but I know how much I want this now and how happy I am! Phew, I need a therapist!!
Funny hearing all the people that loved babies as kids.
My mom worried to no end because I WOULD NOT play with babies as a kid. No babies. No dollies. I will take my stuffed animals and care for them, thank you. I distinctly remember as a small kid feeling like baby dolls were judging me.
These days, I still don't always enjoy other people's children unless I know that person. I love my own kids, but I'm just not a "kid person". I remember hating those kinds of adults when I was a kid, and yet here I am, at a loss for how to talk to kids, and wondering what the heck is going through their heads when they're being irrational....
Always wanted to be a mom, told at 16 that it wasn't going to happen, wanted them more and felt broken for years until I met my husband. Took us 5 years to get Squeaker and apparently she, uh, cleaned the pipes on her way out because I was NOT planning on starting a sibling for her until my due date, but, ya know, NTNP still makes babies.
LOL @thegoodpotato its ok, most people's kids are assholes I actually am uncomfortable around other people's kids, especially when I dont know them well. I never know how to interact with them, ya know?
yes, definitely my dream come true! my best friends all had big families, whenever I would visit I loved playing with their younger siblings. I would love a big family!
I had my first really young and was scared the entire pregnancy and until she was about 2. Then realized I was not as stressed and enjoyed watching her grow and develop. My second I enjoyed every single second and still am. I love babies. I would probably have 10 if I could afford it or even my body handle it. This is 3rd and final so I am going to cherish every moment because it goes by so fast.
Btw I am all sappy and emotional today from these raging hormones.
I'm with @thegoodpotato. When I pictured what my life would be like as a child, it never included kids. That changed shortly after I met my husband (11 years ago, where did that time go?!). We waited a long time before we were ready though. When we had trouble conceiving, baby fever hit hard. As a mother now, I can honestly say that I have never been happier. My son is the best thing that has ever happened to me, by far. I am so comfortable in my role as a mother and value that role above all others. Funny how things (and people) can change.
Miscarriage in January 2012 at 8 weeks
Subsequently diagnosed with low P4, LOR. MH DX low motility, varicocele
BFP in July 2012 (Gonal-f + trigger + IUI#2 (B2B) + prometrium)
Lost Baby A prior to 7 weeks; large SCH; Baby B (Bug) was born in March 2013
"I dont really like kids except my own" goes for me too. I was nervous as all hell to start a family but I knew it was where we wanted to be eventually. It's not as life altering (in a negative way) as I thought. Here we are on our way to #2!
I've always loved babies and wanted my own, but I'd about given up on that dream and was putting my efforts into volunteering in orphanages when I met dh. I was thrilled that he wanted a family as much as I did. Funny thing though, now that I have my own kids, I don't like other people's kids nearly as much. Weird!
Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
Yes, always. DH didn't really want kids when he was younger, but I think that's because he wasn't around them much. Once we started dating and he was around my young cousins, he decided that he wanted them.
We go together like a wink and a smile. June 27, 2009
