Trouble TTC

Intro and 1st RE appt

Hi Ladies,
I've been lurking some and thought I would introduce myself.  I joined the bump a while ago and intro'd on TTGP last year, but did not remain active.  Honestly, I didn't really expect I'd be to this point.

DH and I starting TTC in May of last year.  Without any success, I decided it was time to make an appointment with an RE.  When I first came off of birth control, my cycles were longer than I expected, but were manageable.  They usually didn't go over 40 days.  My last two cycles have been very frustrating.  Last cycle lasted 50 days, and in my current cycle on on day 84.  I know the RE will be able to assist in getting my cycle back on track.

While it will be good to understand what is going on with my body with testing, I'm a ball of nerves.  Can anyone give me any ideas of what to expect?

I look forward to getting to know you ladies.

Thanks!

  • Welcome...This was me about 2 months ago. I am under going my first medicated cycle. Be prepared for lots of testing (blood, urine, hsg, and others if hsg indicates any factors). Hopefully youll get an answer soon enough and actively start trying under the RE's eye. Good luck and I hope your stay is short.

  • Thanks for giving me an idea of what to expect.  I was charting for a couple of months, but I quit because DH and I have sex usually 2-4 times a week, so I wasn't so concerned about whether I was hitting my fertile window. I'm just ready to have some answers.
  • I am just dying over he phrase "dildocam"! The first time I had an internal ultrasound the tech told me to insert it myself because only I know what pressure I can tolerate! Soooo awkward

OMG I laughed too hard at that visual. I hope I don't get asked to do that. I awkwardly start rambling during any appointments requiring stirrups. Up to this point that has just been pap smears, but starting testing I need to get over that QUICK.

TiffW2012! I just had my 1st appointment and bringing my charts was really helpful. Also if you call your insurance before your appointment to get a handle on what your coverage/co-insurance/OOP max looks like that might be helpful. I did that and I was able to have a more informed discussion with the nurse when she was walking me through the next steps for booking tests and working with the billing department. Sometimes you can maximize the insurance coverage if they code it differently. It never hurts to ask :)
  • Welcome and good luck at your appointment!

My appt. was mostly talking and I had an ultrasound too. I would also recommend calling your insurance to make sure/find out what is covered ahead of time.

  • Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

The consultation went really well--no dildocam this time!  We really just talked about my history and what the steps would be.  Right now I'm on CD 83,which is odd for me--my cycles are usually somewhere around 35 days.  So my RE prescribed me with Progesterone and I just took my first dose tonight.

I had already talked to my insurance and diagnostic testing is covered, but treatment is not.  The catch is I have a high deductible plan with a $2000 deductible.  The RE office charges a lower amount for paying out of pocket versus what is charged to insurance.  So I payed out of pocket for my appointment today.  If it looks like I'll reach the $2000, I'll file these claims with my insurance.  We shall see.
