Anyone else?

My kid is 5.5 months old and fusses constantly. She is not happy unless she is being entertained, which I THINK is normal? If I am playing with her or one of our dogs is near enough to where she can look and pat on she is fine, otherwise things like a play gym lasts maybe 5 minutes if I'm lucky before she is throwing a fit. The only thing that has captured her attention for more than that is one of the door frame bouncers, you know, the ones that everyone says are terrible for them. She will sit in there (sometimes) for 20-30 minutes. I usually use that time to wash bottles or sweep the living room while I keep an eye on her.
So last week I go with my MIL to meet her family for the first time & there is a little boy a week younger than Addison (my daughter). He is so quiet and content just sitting in his little bouncy chair. Meanwhile, Addison is squirming in my arms wanting to grab everything or touch someone's face, etc. Now... I am NOT complaining, just wanting a little feedback as to whether this is normal or should she be entertaining herself a little by this age?

Been there.  My guy was in constant need of attention and like your kiddo, the only thing that would keep him entertained for any amount of time was the jumper thingy.

Normal.  Frustrating at times, but normal.

How does she do on walks in a stroller/carrier?  My guy was suprisingly happy and calm for those.

LOVES the stroller, carrier not so much. So weird.
  • DD is like that most days too. She's content as long as someone is paying attention to her (even if it's just me sitting beside her talking to or touching her every few minutes). On days when I have a lot to do and she doesn't take long enough naps, like today, I put her in the carrier and wear her. Have you tried baby wearing? It's been a lifesaver for me! She'll sit in there completely content while I clean or do whatever it is I need to do.

Yes, she loves baby wearing too! She's just so heavy now that it doesn't take long before my back is killing me. Ha.
She' in her exersaucer now, 10 minutes and counting.......we shall see!
  • My DD is like this too.  Baby wearing has saved my sanity - what kind of carrier are you using - the cheap ones are just that - cheap!  I alternate between a Maya wrap ring sling and an ergo baby.  If she is fussing in one, sometimes just the change to the other is enough to calm her down - gives her a different perspective.

I have a baby bjorn. I have heard marvelous things about Ergos. I might have to bite the bullet and invest in one.
  • Also, we had our second doo doo blow out at Target today. LO ended up in overalls without a shirt underneath, then I look down as we are checking out and there is a streak of poo on her forehead. Yep, I was THAT mom today. Sigh.
