Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie to TTC Land.

edited June 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
Hello All.
I'm embarking on the wonderful world of peeing in cups and ripping open OPK tests like they're going out of style.
29 Year old newlywed, given the news of PCOS, and a script of Clomid to assist in ovulation.
Back History: 2 of my older sisters both have several MCs and after years of trying they both went the IVF route.
My husband and I sat down with the doctor and spoke about several options. Pros and Cons of Clomid, PCOS, the fibroids etc.
I never really involved myself on the The Knot or the The Nest because I was a DYI gal, and I was a part of the nest before the knot (living in sin and all).
I was told by several girls, and my bestfriend that this community of ladies is the place to be when going through the TTC road.

Thanks for hearing me and out and making me welcome :)

  • Welcome and Good Luck to you.

First orders of business - I suggest you check out the Newbie Blog at the top of the page if you have not already. It has a lot of useful information that will keep you from being another one of those people who bombards the board with stupid questions and gets consequently blasted for it.

Second - I always recomend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility - many women here including myself find it very helpful, as it goes very in detail into all the inner workings of TTC, it will also help you answer questions for yourself which is always a nice feeling - empowerment and what not.

Third - please keep the baby fairy dust to yourself. We are not the kind who fart rainbows and crap, and you will more than likely hear about it if you use it.

Hello - Thanks for the clarification on the words, and my apologies to whoever I may of offended, I wasn't aware of the term.

Clomid: I was given the script after I had two ultra sounds and two meetings with my gyno. I suffered from a strong cyst rupture earlier this year, and he wanted to monitor the size of the fibroids to see if they happen to grow in size. He's also the doctor for my two older sisters, so he as aware of the history. He told me to take the script, but also, take 2-3 months if I wasn't certain and start charting, temps, opk at home test, and we have a follow up meeting in August. After that, we'll decide where were at. As soon as I take the first Clomid, I have to call in and schedule an appointment for an ultrasound and how I'm responding to it (whether to increase or decease the dosage.)

I did - blood work twice, ultrasounds, husband was checked recently (through work physical he checked off the option during his annual and it was tested = cleared on that end), and next on the list is the flush of the tubes in August prior to clomid.

    I agree.

When he started writing the script I mentally said "that's it? we're already at this point?"

That's when he saw my face when I hesitated to grab the script. My husband was actually the one with that took the paper.

Which is why, I took the step back, called my amazing friend who went through her own hell and back to have a baby, and she directed me to here. I said to myself "let me actually give this charting, temperature, monitoring myself a full 100% shot before resorting to any medication"

I charted for the first month, and I was over the moon that I got a positive OPK, made sure my DH and I were set on our active days. We'll see I test this week.

Which brings me to here, and meeting all you lovely ladies.

Thanks ladies. So, Forgive me if you see a few posts of questions, I'm still understanding the whole DPO language. I'm in the legal finance field, so all I know is number, stats, charts, risks, values, etc - and I'm completely lost at the sheer science of this.

We haven't used protection in over 6 months, but I haven't really charted and examined the days we were doing the sexy tango either. I'm slowly getting it and I'm not expecting a BFP this week, but I'm hoping to understand the entire sequence of things for the month of July. AF is supposed to appear this Friday.

    Here's hoping.

  • Smart gal you are @runner1981 My doctor never offered Metformin. When he did my blood work he said all my levels were normal - therefore I shouldn't have any major problems. He even said the whole "behave yourself, actually don't behave yourself, you won't need any of this stuff"

My period has been like clock work ever since I was 11 - and if it wasn't it was due to the result of high stressful periods of my life, or early mcs (blood work taken to confirm).

Ovulation tracker is just as useless as a period tracker in trying to pinpoint O. That's all.

  • BTW, luffing your shoes in your siggie.
Thank you! My "classic bride" friends all sort of gave me the "look" but I knew it would look great. MY DH is a big comic book nerd, so it was only fitting. This girl on Esty is amazing. Deathstardoll I believe her name is, but she was amazing to work with. Super comfortable the day of. :)
