I took DS and DD to a big rig day today. It looked fun. There were dump trucks and street sweepers and plows and a tanker and school buses and an ice cream truck.
DS was so excited, until we got close. There were a few honks and he just freaked. The honks really weren't that loud, even accounting for my bad hearing. No other child or parent was reacting. But a honk every three or four minutes, even on the other side of the parking lot, just made him lose it.
He cried a lot and was trying to bolt and hide, so we left.
He's always reacted to sounds (jumping and running when a loud car passes or complaining about music).
When do I start to worry there's something more to this? Is there such a thing as being overly sensitive to sounds? When we've gone to the movies he covers his ears the whole time. :-/
Re: Noise sensitivity (PR)
This has been happening for about a year. I didn't think it was THAT unusual until I saw him freak while all the other kids, from baby to preteen, were happy and calm.
