Pregnant after a Loss

What helps relieve your PgAL brain?

Hi ladies!

I am having one of those bad, worrisome, "PgAL brain" days, and it made me think that maybe we could put together a list of things that help us from time to time. Sometimes, I am sure that there are things that some people do that help de-stress them, that others may not think of.

For me, it depends on the level of anxiety! Sometimes, yoga nidra helps me…it's a conscious & guided meditative state. You can find some guided practices on YouTube…it's not regular yoga; you lay there and listen to someone tell you to "go to" another place, while you lay as still as possible.  Other days, I read.

What about you, ladies?

  • My doppler, yoga, meditation, calming music, distractions like fun plans with friends, light exercise (hikes with my dog), and reading light books.

I am doing so much better on days when I am physically busy.  Sitting and working at the computer, even if it seems like it should keep me occupied, doesn't do it.  Reading is iffy.  I am much better if I am out and about.  A walk around the block with the dog is enough, but I need to keep busy.  Exactly three more weeks until my first ultrasound!
  • First thing that jumped into my sarcastic head was booze! (absolutely not!)

But seriously, I just keep telling myself that I'm doing what I can and I'm pregant now, so enjoy it, as I may not get it again and wouldn't it suck if I "ruined" this one for myself by being so dang worried all the time.

The other day I read a mantra that really stuck with me, I love this baby and it deserves to be celebrated without fear. good luck :)
    I like this a lot.

Related, it has also helped me to remember that the best possible thing I can do for my baby is to relax. A stressed-out mama won't do him a bit of good. So, when I feel the worry start to kick in, I take a nap, meditate, read. Prior to being on limited duty, I would go for a walk. Anything to helped calm my body and mind at the same time.

I like these a lot!!!  I agree that getting out of your normal head space and literally removing yourself from where you physically are can work wonders.  I like to go to our little garden plot and weed, check on our plants, harvest lettuce, water, etc. I find that tending to something I can physically touch and see really helps me.

  • I love the mantras…I really need to keep saying them. It was just one of those really bad days (where I ended up calling the nurse at my RE's office), and all of this helped tremendously!

Haha Lori! I really never drank a lot, but boy, I miss it now that I can't have it. I just want a nice cold beer and cheeseburger.

I love all of the mantras. I talk to my mom a lot; we can talk without fear. It's about when this baby gets here, not what if he/she doesn't.

Or sleeping; I love sleeping :)

  • My husband 's cousin's just stopped over for a minute with their two dogs and FIVE little French Bulldog puppies! OMG!  So in love and completely forgot that I "should" be worring about my own stuff.  Snuggling with furry, wrinklely little furballs is definitely high on my list now!

I'm 21 weeks today, and I've been having PGAL brain recently. I had my anatomy scan at 18w4d, right before moving out of state, and my next appointment with a new OB isn't until 24w2d, so almost 6 weeks apart, which is by far the longest I've gone between visits. I haven't started feeling definite movements or kicks yet (or wouldn't know exactly how to recognize them compared to gas bubbles or digestive system working), and I was trying to avoid worrying, but decided to rent a doppler to hopefully ease my mind. It should arrive on Thursday.
