Double stroller thoughts?

edited June 2014 in December 2014 Moms
I know it's still a little early but instead of doing important stuff like dishes (gag!) or other house crap i'm thinking of maybe getting a double stroller or just sticking with my single jeep stroller and wearing the new baby until s/he's too big. DD will be a little over two and she enjoys her walks. I don't feel she'll be too big because wrangling her while shopping is difficult enough now add a tiny one to it and I start to think i'll never be able to take them anywhere.
Also, on a related note, I was thinking of forgoing the infant car seat. DD out grew her's so fast it seems like a waste plus I rather carry baby instead of a big bulky seat.
Your thoughts?

Re: Double stroller thoughts?

  • Infant seat I think depends on where you live and the climate.

I wanted to forgo the infant seat but then I remembered how nice it was to not have to stick baby in a freezing car seat in a freezing car every time we got into the car. The infant seat goes with you and stays warm...

Not sure on the double stroller. I have the same debate going in my head right now.

  • South west Florida ain't ever gunna get that cold.
But the heat is serious. I could just run the AC for a couple of minutes before putting baby in plus I need to get it tinted which will help somewhat.
I never though bout the weather, thanks!

I posted that about double strollers a little while ago. Some really helpful info :-)

As for the car seat, don't you still have one from your dd? Or did you get rid of it? I live in a cold climate so it's nice to be able to keep lo in the bucket seat and covered when going to and from the car. DD grew out of her infant seat really quickly too. We probably wouldn't have bought it had we known how quickly. However it will get used again with this LO and I did like having it.

  • My boys are 26mos apart and we did not use a double stroller. I carried my youngest and my oldest was good to walk. Now that they are bigger I do use a single stroller for appointments and such where I go with my two by myself. It's so much easier to have my almost 2yr old contained. With #3 on the way and being way outnumbered, I am looking into a sit and stand stroller. A friend of mine swears by hers.

As far as the infant seat goes, we got rid of ours after #2 but we plan to get a new one. The convenience of not having to wake the baby is worth the money to us.

  • Yep, if I lived in Florida then I would definitely skip the infant seat! I live in Ontario so it gets SUPER cold in January...

  • I loved having the infant seat because if he fell asleep in the car I could easily bring him inside without worrying about waking him up. It's definitely not something I NEEDED, but I loved having that convenience.

I won't be getting a double stroller. I wore DS more often than not and now that he's getting big we use the stroller. I'm assuming he'll stay in the stroller while I wear the new baby and then by the time #2 is too big to wear, DS should be able to walk most of the time.

If it ends up being something I want after the baby is here, I might buy one from a consignment store, but I'm not planning on buying any new gear at this point.

  • I had a graco double stroller. Used it once. Once! It was too bulky to be worth it, plus i ended up wearing DD2 everywhere and pushing DD1 in her umbrella stroller, or the shopping cart. Baby wearing was my lifesaver (and with an Ergo it's comfy until well into toddlerhood!). My girls were 21 months apart. :)

Now with #3 I think DD1 will walk since she's my good listener anyway, Dd2 will ride and Baby #3 will be worn.

  • I'm going to baby wear for a little bit and then probably buy a rumble seat for my uppababy. DD will be 2.5 when the new kiddo comes and she mostly walks but gets tired sometimes and there is no way in hell I'm carrying her 40lb self.

  • I will also likely wear the baby and put my toddler in the stroller or grocery cart. If I feel the need for a double stroller down the line, I'll get one, but I'm holding off for now.

I'm not sure what kind of infant seats people had that their kids grew out of so fast. DS was in his Chicco KeyFit 30 until he was around a year old, and he was always 80th percentile or above for height and weight. Yes, it was bulky and heavy, but it wasn't that hard to take baby in and out of it and leave it in the car if I wanted to. I just felt like it was really safe and it was what I was comfortable using. Plus it was more expensive than a convertible seat, so I guess I felt like I wanted to really get a lot of use out of it or something?

  • I just don't have the kinda money to dump into a really nice double stroller. Maybe if I really need it later on I'll look into it but the infant carrier is nice for the first few months when all baby does is sleep eat and cry. I'll have two convertible seats from DD. For my dad's car then mine. Plus I don't believe a boy HAS TO HAVE blue and green seats, sheets, toys ECT. If it works it works.

  • I will be getting a double. I had an uppababy with DS but it was a loaner from a friend and she had a baby this year so I won't be getting it back for this LO. I am actually going to look at a used one this weekend. It's an uppababy and has the rumble seat too. I like that it can be a double or a single and it handles so well. And they have good resale value so if I end up not wanting it I can resell it. As for the infant carrier I have one and will use it but it's not necessary. I have a snug ride 35 but DS was out of it around 8 months. He was a big boy and the convertible provided him with more room side to side. I also live in Ontario and it gets very cold so it does definitely help during the cold months.
