~~~Workout Wednesday~~~
Come and join in all you exercising ladies :)
What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?
Were you able to meet your goals for the week?
GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?
Re: ~~~Workout Wednesday~~~
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? running only.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? yes. 3x 6 mile run commute. I don't really have a choice - if I don't run, I don't get to work, talk about motivation. I'm thinking about picking up yoga, but probably won't do that for a while yet.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? Generally I need a schedule, especially for marathon training. It makes me accountable and makes it harder for me to blow a work-out off. However, usually in the summer I am not training for anything (too hot!) so I just run when I have the time to keep up minimal fitness - it is different this summer because of my commute though and I have a set schedule.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?
    Just walking
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?
    My only goal was to get my ass off the couch, so I suppose I did meet that goal.... I took DD for a walk this morning. Wanted to make it to 2 miles, only did 1 though. I felt dizzy and ill and it wasn't pleasant.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?
    With this nausea, I kind of just have to go when I feel well enough. When I was training for my half marathons, I definitely had a set schedule of when to run and how far to run.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? walking, golf (more walking!), and barre
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Pretty much! Due to scheduling issues, I'm only getting two barre classes this week but I got my ass out of bed this morning and walked for 30 minutes JUST so I could say I did in the thread today. Yay interweb motivators!
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? A little of both actually. I book barre weeks in advance because the good classes fill up. Everything else (yoga, walking, golf) is fly by the seat of my pants.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?  I told the trainer at the gym that I was doing bootcamp with that I just found out I'm pregnant.  (Weird I told him before my family)  He told me I shouldn't do his bootcamp if Im pregnant and when I asked him what he thought about cardio kickboxing he said he didn't recommend it.  I'm going to ask my doctor Friday.  With PGAL Brain in full swing, I just stuck to elliptical to be safe.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? My goal was to go all 7 days, but I only made it 5 of the 7.  I guess thats still decent.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?  I usually take DS so I go when we can work it into our schedule this summer.  During school, I had more of a weekly set schedule.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? I do a variety of exercises from home.  On M-W-F, I like to do some type of cardio exercise.  On T-Th, I like to strength train.  So far this week, I've done a low impact aerobics work-out, and I worked on my arms/shoulders and abs.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? I will.  My goal is to exercise 5 days a week.  I'm 3 days in and going strong!
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? I must follow a set schedule in order to be effective in exercising.  I'm a teacher, so I am home for the summer and I am on a good exercise schedule.  Once I return to work in August, that schedule will go out the window and I'll try my best to squeeze it in when I can.
    but YAY this makes me happy :) woo hoo motivation
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? I walked most nights for at least an hour with DS (in the stroller) and then Saturday we went for a two hour walk.  I made it to the gym a few times in the morning before work.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Nope, but that's ok.  It's my last week of work so rather than bust my tail getting up at 4:15 I thought I'd sleep in and then take advantage of my awesome schedule once this week ends!
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? I try to plan in advance.  At the least I have a 20 minute drive to the gym so I can plan then!
    Running and Pilates
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?
    For the most part. My goal on Monday was to nap until 5pm and then go for a night jog, but I ended up sleeping on my couch until 9pm!! Yes, I "napped" for about 7 hours! My DH calls it reverse napping bc I nap more than I sleep at night now!
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?
    I do better with a set schedule/goal plan. Right now I'm training for a Half in October so that's my focus now.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? I work for a large corporate company so I have the luxury of a gym at my office. I go every M-F from 2:30 to 3:30 and do a combo of running, strength training and other body weight resistance moves. I also try to run or hike on the weekends w/ DH and the dog.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Yes! As long as I get 5-6 workouts in each week I'm happy!
    GTKY: I almost never miss the gym during the week because I like getting away from my desk! I use my "lunch break" time to go to the gym. I'm also a create of habit and love having a routine so it's second nature now.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?  Weights and elliptical at the gym
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?   Yes!  I was really dragging on Friday but went anyway :)
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?  DH and I work out opposite days so that the other one can keep an eye on DS, so we have a loose schedule of when our workout days are.  He's much better about sticking to it.. but then he's not growing a human either.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?  Running and bicycling
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?   Not really - I want to get back to running 3-4x a week.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?  I need some external motivation to stick to a schedule - like staying in shape for my wedding or training for a half - otherwise it's fly by the seat of my pants. I am planning to run another half in October so pretty soon I'll get into a routine.
  • @labirafe85 @babeRn101 I see you guys are running halfs in Oct. I am trying to decide if I should do my usual half on Thanksgiving, which would be like 28wks. What convinced you that an Oct. half would be good/doable...
    I hate waiting till the last minute to sign up because of the price increases. Do either of you have other LOs or anybody else run through a previous pregnancy? How long were you able to run (long distances like a half) comfortably?
    @MaddScientist I'm just going off what I've read online from women who have run halfs and even fulls while pregnant. There are some threads on TB if you do a search, and I've also found blogs from women who trained and ran while pregnant. I don't know anyone personally or have personal experiences to share since this is my first pregnancy.
    Still, I will probably wait until it gets closer to commit. For my race the registration rate doesn't go up again until October 1.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?
    I lift weights, run and do a lot of group exercise (boot camps, interval training, circuit training and spin). This week I did all of the above.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?
    My goal is just to pull myself together and get my butt to the gym every day (except Sundays) and I did that. I have actually not had to modify too much yet. My lower abdomen is a bit tender to the touch. Abdominal work on my back or standing does not bother me but there have been a couple exercises or stretches that have come up in the group exercise classes that involve laying flat on your stomach. I have had to modify or skip those. It's not painful, just a bit sore...but even so I'd rather just skip it. Other than that my routine has stayed the same.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?
    I have a schedule that I like to stick to but I also have a plan b for every day. If something else comes up or I'm not feeling well there is always a back-up.
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? I've done the elliptical and pilates so far this week.
    Were you able to meet your goals this week? So far, yes. For the remainder of the week, my goal is to do 2 more pilates classes and 3 more cardio sessions.
    Are you a fly by the seat of your pants or follow a set schedule exerciser? I have always planned my workouts in advance (at least a couple of weeks in advance and i adjust as necessary on the week of if something comes up with work or personal). With my personality I operate better on a schedule with having a sense of what i'm doing and when (especially since i do various types of exercise).
  • I did some walking this week.  I was torn about how much to do.  I really want to stay active but between the fatigue and the occasional spotting I experienced, I needed to take it easy.
    Really anxious to get back to doing some yoga once my doctors give me the go-ahead.  They've been really cautious with me mostly because they know I was nervous the first week or two that the pregnancy wasn't going to stick.  Feeling a lot more confident now.
  • Question for the group: my doctor doesn't want me to run or to do spin during my pregnancy. I did both consistently prior to getting pregnant (and have ran in a couple of half marathons in the past), so I was surprised and kind of sad when he told me not to continue doing either. I've seen various posts about expectant mothers continuing so am interested to hear other opinions/perspectives... I was thinking about trying to start running again after the 1st trimester?
    Did your doctor tell you why he doesn't recommend running for you? I think generally, exercising during pregnancy - especially if you did consistently before pregnanacy and you have no problems (like spotting etc.) that would suggest you need to take it easy - is recommended. If your doctor didn't give you specific reasons I would follow up - and if he still doesn't have legitimate reasons I would still go ahead as long as you are feeling comfortable
  • I have an ab question(s). Most of what I've read online says no modifications really necessary until after 1st tri, but after that, I have questions. What do you guys think (non-medically of course, I'll ask my doctor when I get seen, just curious) about standing ab work or planks? I love both and do both frequently in barre.
    Agree with @MaddScientist and also don't think there's any reason to wait until the second tri, providing your doctor doesn't have specific reasons for telling you not to. It seems like it would be better to keep up your fitness and stamina during the first tri if you could.
  • I would think planks would not be a problem. I'm not really sure what standing ab work entails (googled) but from what I see from youtube, it would also not be bad to do :)
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?  Hiking/walking.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? No, but I didn't do all that bad. I got in 4 workouts this week. My goal is 5-6. DH is my workout buddy and he hurt his foot so he can't workout with me. It's making it hard to self-motivate.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? Both, I guess. Due to work, I pretty much need to workout in the evening. When in the evening depends on what else is going on, whether I want to eat dinner first and if it's raining, too hot, or otherwise crappy weather.
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Yes. I get up and exercise first thing in the morning... otherwise I'm less likely to do it! I get more tired and lazy as the day goes on. However, once the summer is over and I go back to work (teaching), my schedule will probably be blown :)
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? I am going on a walk right now and was happy this post was here as a reminder.
  • @MaddScientist‌ - I ran a 7.4k last 4th of July and the lady that beat me (right at the end) was probably 8 months along. Last time I stopped running shortly after my BFP but I plan to continue with this one.
    I went on a 1.5 mile walk with my 3 yo yesterday and took him kayaking for an hour this morning. I enjoy "running" - with the jog stroller its more of a trudge. I run when I can which is not often enough. DH is currently doing a gym program/support/healthy eating habits and he doesn't get home until a little later than I'd like to go out. I might have to get myself in gear and start doing mornings. Ick.
    ~I give up. No siggie for me~
  • @MaddScientist‌ , my race's entry is based on a lottery (Nike Women's Half in San Fran) so I find out this week if I got in officially and I actually registered before I knew I was pregnant! This is my first pregnancy so I'm just taking it run by run and seeing how my body is handling everything.
    @Irishcurls‌ , you can also do butterfly/scissor kicks for abs (lay down with your hands under your butt, legs extended a few inches off ground...)
  • I'm impressed by all you ladies exercising!  I know I should be, but between the nausea and fatigue, all I want to do after work is lay down and/or take a nap.  After reading this thread, I now officially feel like a lazy bum.   Maybe I will go take the dog for a walk.... :-/
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week?
    Only managed to run for 1 mile before the dizziness kicked in and losing my breakfast.  Switched to 30mins walks nightly
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week?
    No, far from it.  I want to get back to running 3 miles every other morning.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? Right now I'm sticking with whenever my meals aren't threatening to exit. I plan on forcing myself to go run in the morning again next week.
    friday: 4 mile run, 45 minutes strength training
    tuesday: 45 minutes interval training
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Almost.  My goal was to get 5 workouts in, and I did 4 (I did 2 on friday)... which is okay since I was out of town for four days.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance? Well... I usually make a schedule, but lately have been skipping some planned days :-(  I don't really have a good reason, I've just been lazy!
    Goals for the next week:
    thursday: interval training, equipment pilates
    friday: running, strength training
    tuesday: interval training
    wednesday: equipment pilates
  • What fitness/exercise did you partake in this week? Running, crossfit, and rugby coaching (I run drills and opposition in games against the girls).
    Were you able to meet your goals for the week? Sort of.  I only got 2 runs in last week, and I'll likely only get 2 in this week.  I'd like to get 3+.  However, I had 4 days of rugby with the girls and I was running around with them quite a bit in the heat.  I got to the gym for my scheduled class and am looking forward to upping it next week, although I'm contemplating trading a crossfit session for yoga.
    GTKY: Are you a fly by the seat of your pants exerciser - just going when you feel like it - or do you follow a set schedule planned (weeks) in advance?  I really have to be in a set schedule.  It's just what works for me.  I will cancel/rearrange at seat of my pants depending on things (commitments, injuries, fatigue, etc.), but I usually try to plan stuff like that out.  Consistency is the thing that keeps me going.
    @teshadgirl This advice is ridiculous. I think as long as you pay attention to your body while running (don't get overheated, especially in the summer, stay hydrated, and be comfortable you should be good.
