Went to the doc yesterday for belly pain. The nurse came in and got all my info, told me my urine looked good and clear, preg test negative, all that jazz. No surprises there.
OB came in and was really concerned about the pain, which surprised me. She said she wanted to check my paragard placement and to get undressed. She left and I got myself all arranged. She came back with a weird look on her face. She tells me I'M PREGNANT. She looked at my test again and it's faintly positive.
I just looked at her in confusion while she kind of rubbed my arm. I asked her how that was possible, and she told me she needed to check the IUD. Next shock: she couldn't find it.
They sent me for a vaginal ultrasound to check for ectopic, but couldn't see anything at all. They ran blood work to check my hormone levels and I just got those back. 27...so I'm maybe 3-4 weeks.
The current working theory is that the IUD made its merry way through my uterus and into my abdominal cavity, and is now causing pain. Unless the pain becomes severe, I develop infection, or can't eat, it isn't considered an emergency. They usually find them with X-ray, but since I'm pregnant that's not a great option.
I am going back Monday or Tuesday for another blood draw to make sure the numbers are going up appropriately. They don't think it's ectopic, but we won't know for sure until we see it in ultrasound at around 6-8 weeks.
As unplanned as this is and as freaked out as we are, we plan to continue the pregnancy. So my EDD is around the end of February/beginning of March.
I had no idea IUDs could travel like that! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this, but I know we will love this baby like crazy. I just keep thinking about how life will work as a family of five...and I have no clue. Pretty sure my face is permanently stuck like this:

Re: Trying to be calm
OMG, what a crazy and scary story. I hope they figure out whats going on with UID soon and you will not have any problems or complications because of it.
As for pregnancy - Congrats! Even it is unplanned everything will be ok and this baby is a blessing. Good luck to you.
GL! I hope your numbers rise appropriately. Talk about a shock!

For those who asked, I'm not sure what the plan is as far as what would happen if the IUD became an emergency. It didn't even occur to me to ask. They don't seem at all concerned at how it will affect the pregnancy but I'll need to ask about that too.
But yes, we are coming around to be excited about the baby! @nesenotes, are you kidding? 5? If never heard of this, never even knew it was freaking possible!
