HG- boy vs girl?

I know that many articles (not sure validity) have talked about having HG and it being related to a higher chance of having a girl. I am wondering if it was true for you, or do you know yet?

For me it was, I was diagnosed at about 8 weeks for having HG (still on meds) and it turns out it was a girl as far as the A/S shows.

My doctor told me this was true in the beginning of my pregnancy. I also think there are several studies that yielded the same results. Of course, it's not guaranteed that you will have a girl but moms with HG have a higher percentage rate of having girls.

I definitely didn't have HG (and those who did/do have my sympathies), but I was more nauseated with my current (boy) than I was with DD.

My mother had HG with me, so right for her, wrong for me!

Also- this one is a boy too and I was very sick the first 17weeks.. Not nearly as bad as my first where I had HG for 39weeks straight. My mom had zero morning sickness with my sister or I so who knows!

I was nauseous/queasy for maybe 5 weeks total. Only actually threw up 2 or 3 times. I'm having a girl.

I feel like this is true for me. I'm having 2 girls, and my HG is still going strong @ 18 weeks.

Can I just point out that I think a few people aren't recognizing that HG and nausea aren't the same thing? I think we all know this, but the op wasn't saying you if you have a girl you are more nauseous. She said with HG you are more likely to have a girl. Not the same thing. Thank you for clarifying @jlove253‌ I was starting to get annoyed for those just posting about morning sickness or those posting about not being sick somehow means boy, not at all what I was saying. I truly mean being diagnosed with HG, frick I wish I only had morning sickness!

@Jatpa003‌- seriously! Women with HG are more likely to abort their babies, that's how bad it can be. Not the same as puking for a couple weeks.

I wasn't told I was diagnosed with HG with dd, but have been told by my new ob that I have it this time and it's basically the same as with dd's pregnancy so I feel ok saying I had it the first time too. So, if that's true then I had it with a girl. We will see about this time. Also, I started to feel better earlier than I did with dd so hoping this pregnancy is about tiger very different. (With dd it eased at 18 weeks and really came back hard at 26 weeks).

And I also want to acknowledge that I only have moderate HG. For those of you with severe HG my heart really goes out to you. Ugh. What a terrible thing we live though, and for the severe even more so, to have our babies.

I have a friend who had hg. She was hooked up to an iv almost the entire pregnancy. She had a boy.

I was DX: with HG in my first pregnancy.. ER trips for IV fluids were the norm for me. Losing 20lbs in the first tri.. And only gaining 11 total from being extremely sick for 39 weeks straight I understand the difference between HG and normal morning sickness/ nausea. As I mentioned in my precious posts I had a rough start in the beginning of THIS pregnancy but nothing compared to my first. Both boys. I feel for anyone experiencing HG currently or in the past it is awful!!!

I agree with PPs about making a distinct between HG and nausea. I honestly didn't know what it was until I had it and even when I explain it to people they think it's "just morning sickness". Anyhoo, my HG is tapering off finally and I'm having a girl.

@jlove253 Same here, also acknowledging that my HG is only moderate - being on Zofran/Diclegis has thankfully helped most days.

Like you, I also feel for the ladies w/ severe HG and/or who can't find relief through any of the medications available. Hope I didn't offend, and by no means was I trying to make light of how serious HG can be. It takes a strong woman to endure that!

Yes HG is not regular vomitting. I am waiting for my insurance to just approve the picc line insertion because the co-pays for the ER are so high. I have developed two cavities "so far" from all the stomach acid and can't even get them fixed because I will vomit all over the dentist. I HATE when people give me all their remedies or make a comment about how I do not even look pregnant. I don't look pregnant because I am still not at my pre-pregnancy weight! Ugh, can you tell I am fed up.

I had a misdiagnosis with my first, I had a boy. Just regular morning sickness with my 2nd had a boy, this 3rd I've actually been diagnosed at 8 weeks, trips to ER, lost 20lbs already, infusion center for IVs, zofran pills that don't help, insurance won't cover Picc line. It's completely awful. But we are team green. Have out A/S next month, not sure why so much later then usual

No nausea, vomiting, food aversions, etc with any of my pregnancies. DS is boy, this one is girl, and I had one miscarriage in between.

I hope you get better soon. The daily IV fluid and liquid zofran are what I believe to have helped me get to where I am now. I'm also scheduling that dentist appt... I'm so afraid to hear of the damage I've done to my teeth thus far. Also, I just give people blank stares when they tell me their "remedies," as if I haven't given everything a try.

I have had so many appeals to just get the zofran pills. I had to end up ordering it from canada and I only had enough to take one a day, which you know doesn't work. It has been the most exhausting battle with insurance I could ever imagine. I finally, just last week, got approved for 90 pills to be refilled as needed, not just monthly. I feel like if the picc line would be inserted then I would throw up less. I guess I can't tell the difference but I feel like most times I am throwing up because my headache is so bad because I am so dehydrated. My insurance is putting up the biggest fight even though I have letters and calls from my midwife, mfm and dentist.

I did not think you were being offensive at all. Don't worry or apologize one bit. My comment was directed toward women who are saying "I haven't been sick at all and I'm having a ____" and the like. I didn't want to call anyone specifically out because I didn't want anyone to feel bad for not understanding.

Now as people keep posting without understanding I do want to call them out. Read the thread people. I'm just way to passive and non-confrontational to do that. I'm trying to be more blunt, but this was the best I've got so far.

It's kind of amazing you know three women who have had HG and two pregnancies period. I think I read that women with HG have an average of 1.2 children, but I can't find the source now. The only person I personally know with HG besides myself also had one of each.

Relating to the HG talk - curious if any of you ladies w/ HG felt judgement for taking Zofran (or other meds)? I do, mainly from people who have never even had any type of MS. "Well when I was pregnant, I just ate some saltines & sucked it up.." Ugh. Why should I have to feel shame for doing whatever it takes to keep myself and these babies safe/healthy? Sorry for the rant!

Yes I have also been made to feel terrible for taking meds. My mother told me to suck it up, and that because she never even had queeezy-ness I was complaining about nothing. (Ps she also told me to stop complaining when I broke my ankle-great mother hey? :-@ ) she told me that my child was going to be born with limbs and have severe brain issues... This was at the point I thought about aborting due to the pain it was causing me, and the lack of support I was getting. If it wasn't for this group I don't know what would have happened.

Also @FhSTAR81‌ thank you, I am really shocked at the fact that people cannot read. I do not care what you are having (in this thread) if you personally do not have HG or have had it.

PS people who self diagnose because they feel bad morning sickness... Don't even get me started. I will leave that alone for right now because I am in a good mood

I think the issue is awareness. My dad keeps telling me I need something to make me burp. I try to explain to him that that is not the issue. He also asked me if the MFM suggested gatorade (eye roll). I have plenty of people tell me that they would never taken a medication routinely in pregnancy. They have also not been face with the fact that they cannot eat or stay hydrated enough to function in the normal population. People just really don't understand the difference. I do try to sympathize because whatever said mom is experiencing is the worse that she has probably dealt with and doesn't know any better but I am pretty bitter right now regarding this situation.

I get ALOT of judgment from people once they find out the list of meds I'm on. It used to bother me, but I've been in IDGAF mode towards those type of people for a couple of months now. They aren't there to see me not keep my food down, get weekly IVs and liquid Zofran, and everything else just so that I can function. I wish there was more of an awareness of what HG is and the serious complications that come with it.

Just wanted to clarify (since I’m probably one of the offenders): I noted that I have had hardly any nausea and I’m having a girl as a simple example as to the “theory” being unreliable. I totally feel for anyone who has HG, ya’ll are some troopers.

I appreciate your sympathy. Frankly any nausea sucks. I always try to make a point of making sure my pregnant friends dont feel embarrassed about complaining to me about their nausea. There's no need to rank our puke levels if there is sympathy and compassion where appropriate. But the question was regarding the theory that women with HG are more likely to have girls, and not the other way around (have a girl, more like to have HG).

Hugs to all of you with HG. I just have run-of-the-mill morning sickness and it's miserable. I can't imagine dealing with what you're dealing with (moderate or not!)

The one friend I had with HG has it with each pregnancy, all four turned out to be girls.

I've heard that they think it's linked to the increased hormones that come with girls - but I don't remember which exactly.

The theory being IF you have HG THEN you are more likely to have a girl. If you don't qualify for the IF then you are not even included in the theory.

This is like saying if you have diabetes then you must be overweight. And then me chiming in saying I don't have diabetes but am overweight. A)no one who asked that question would care what I said because I don't fit the if and

it doesn't disprove their theory.
(I know it's not the best scenario but it's all I could do to dumb it down)
