Coffee snobs: I need your help

What do you do for home brew decaf? I am drinking full caf when I need it, but the decaf is just not doing it for me taste-wise. Any recs? If not, I'll take your full caf recs too! Anyone who says Starbucks anything, no thank you.

Re: Coffee snobs: I need your help

  • I really enjoy Peet's Coffee - anything tha is medium to light blend. Not sure where my coffee snob taste buds went with this pregnancy, but I can't handle any dark blends right now.

  • I haven't home brewed decaf in a long time, from what I remember TRader Joes has a great organic decaf. I hate the regular decaf coffees because they go through a process (I believe chemical) to remove the caffiene. I typically drink organic decaf when I buy it for home to avoid that harsh taste.

  • I would say Illy, but not sure if they make instant or not.

I like Peet's, too.  There's also a bearable decaf at TJs.  I make Americanos whenever possible.

  • I love Gevilia (don't mind my spelling) it is the yellow bags in the grocery store.  My favorite coffee is an organic one at my Farmer's Market but it is like $17 a pound.

  • I've been drinking a small cup of 1/2 caf every few days - I just buy a pound of regular and a pound of decaf, and mix it up. I like Peet's, Stumptown, and Illy.

  • Larry's Beans! I love their Twilight blend, and their espresso blend- both decaf and really good. I use a French press, and double up if I want it iced.

  • Caribou and Trader Joes make the only decaf I can stand. Though I usually end up mixing far more into it than the little bit of sugar I'd usually use. If you can grab a cheap frother, it makes a lot of coffees more tolerable :P

  • Make sure it's swiss-water processed. Otherwise what you're tasting is the chemicals used to remove the caffeine.

We mixed half decaf and regular beans and I don't even notice the difference.
  • I'm on team Trader Joes. I have never tried their decaf but their regular coffee is pretty good and smooth. I imagine that decaf is just as good. But really is there anything at Trader Joes that Isn't good?? ~O)
