insomnia

Okay, I've got to do something to get some sleep! I've already emailed my ob, but haven't heard back, and my regular doc is on vacation. I have an appointment on Thursday morning, so I'll bring it up, but I have to sleep before then!

Have any of you been told what (if anything) is safe to take during pregnancy? I can't/shouldn't do benadryl because I take daily allergy meds already. Help please!

  • Unis
OTC is safe. I take ambien, which is safe, but some people don't want to do it. Also, maybe a bath, meditating?

  • Sorry. That should be unison.

  • Thanks. I'll try that. I hesitate to take prescription sleep aids because my dh works nights and I've got two other kids.

But I haven't slept more than four hours in a night in... Months. :(

  • I second the Unisom. I took it a lot for morning sickness several months ago, but now I think I'm going to have to go back to it, since it's almost 4am and I need to be up for work in a couple of hours. :(

However, Unisom is an antihistamine just like Benadryl....

I take a half of a Unisom tablet along with B6 every night during the week. On the weekends I take a whole tablet.

My ob recommended Tylenol pm which knocked me out but I was groggy so you might want to try it on a night you don't have anything important to do the next day first. I also get groggy on Benadryl so that might just be me

My OB recommended Tylenol Pm too. But I just take diphenhydramine (which is the sleep aid in Tylenol PM) so that I don't have the unnecessary acetaminophen too. A word of caution though, diphenhydramine is an antihistamine, so check with your doc or pharmacist if you are worried about taking it on top of your other allergy meds. Good luck! I hope you find some relief.
