Asthma?

Has anyone dealt with Asthma during pregnancy?  I really hadn't had an issue before, diagnosed with exercise induced asthma when I was long distance running and hadn't had any occurances in the last two years.  Now simply walking from the parking lot to my desk is putting me out of breath, a whole 3-4 minute walk.  Or even grocery shopping, I had to leave the grocery store Sunday because I couldn't breathe and was going into coughing fits.  Poor DH had to take me home then go back and finish shopping.  Last night was the wrost having coughing fits from 6-10:30 with very little relief.  I tried an inhaler I did have and it wasn't much help.  I called my OB office and they are sending me to my family doctor today to get evaluated.

Have those with Asthma seen flair ups when you were pregnant?  Has anyone had reactions like this before and what helped soothe the shortness of breath and coughing attacks?

    Yes, I have mild asthma and totally noticed a flare up. Couldn't walk very far at all without being out of breath. Things seemed to have calmed down though. I say it was the worst from weeks 12-16 or somewhere around there.

    Thanks, I saw the doctor last night.  She does think it's an asthma flare up.  I was perscribed a new inhaler to take twice a day or as needed and am going to follow back up with her in a week to make sure things are working.

    Sorry you are feeling this way.  Not being able to breath is one of the worst feelings. I have had asthma since I was 5.  It hasn't been bothersome until I was about 12 weeks pregnant.  I used my rescue inhaler multiple times a day.

    When I spoke to my OB about it she prescribed me Advair.  I have been taking this for a little of a month and have noticed such a difference.  I think I have only used my rescue inhaler maybe 2x in the past month.

    I hope that you find some relief and your dr can help.  Ask about Advair.  Good Luck with everything :)

    I have asthma. Ive had a few flair ups, none that bad though. I've been trying to get my asthma under control for years! I was seeing an allergist/asthma specialist. I was on allergy shots, all kinds of asthma medicine to figure out what combinations worked best. I had the most success with dulera and was able to get less serious medicine as my pfts got better. One thing I recommend is if the inhaler you have doesn't seem to help the issue, make sure you let your doctor know. Everyone is different and sometimes it takes a combination of things to help get the asthma under control.

    I had to go to the ER and be on a nebulizer for about 2 hours as my rescue inhaler wasn't helping. I've been fine since then. Asthma attacks can be rough esp since they say if you're not getting enough oxygen then neither is the baby. I hope your flare ups subside soon.
