Pulled muscle in my abdomen??

I started getting a searing/stabbing pain that comes and goes on the right side of my lower stomach, that feels like a pulled or strained muscle. It isn't constant, but hurts like crazy when it does show up—mostly when I stand up, walk around, etc. It's happened on my left side once before, too. Anyone else getting this?? I'll ask my doc about it, too, but in the meantime, any ideas to ease the pain?

Re: Pulled muscle in my abdomen??

  • I have both of those things you both mentioned.  I have a stabbing pain in my lower abdomen that feels like a pulled groin muscle when I move position in bed, sit down, stand up, walk, or put my pants on. My doctor said it was caused by the baby putting pressure on my pelvis and my ligaments and it's normal and it won't really go away and there's nothing I can do about it.  Fun.
I also randomly get a sharp pain in the middle of my bump when I try to use my ab muscles from time to time.  It typically only happens when I'm in bed or lounging on the couch, I plan on talking to my doctor about it next week since it feels kinda bad.  It feels like my ab muscles are torn or something like that.

  • This sounds like round ligament pain to me, too. I was getting it earlier in the pregnancy and then it went away, but for the last few weeks it's been back. I usually get it when changing positions, and usually only on one side at a time, although I haven't noticed that one side is more prone to this than the other. It's extremely painful for a little while and then it relaxes and I feel better. I have no idea how to fix it; I usually just ride it out until it goes away.
  • I had this for a couple of weeks.  I think I did it at Pilates one night.  The doctor told me if it only hurts when I move, it's likely just a muscle strain.  It went away when I gave it some good rest.

Good luck and I hope it goes away soon.  Mine lasted about two weeks.
  • Last week I got up too fast and must have used my stomach muscles to push ,myself because I felt the muscle yank. It hurt so bad I cried and then I called doctor because I was scared I hurt baby. She told me it's common to pull muscles in belly and yo just relax take Tylenol and it went away after a few days.
  • Thanks, everyone! Yeah, I'm expecting my doc will say round ligament pain or a pulled muscle... fun times! I can't believe how many more aches and pains I'm having this time around. Luckily it went away after laying down for a while yesterday, but it seems to come out of nowhere!

triumphgrrrl, LO is super active and seems to like to push OUT against my stomach a lot, if that makes any sense. So far she switches sides quite often. I think her aerobics might be contributing somewhat... it's like she's trying to break outta there!
