Witching Hour

Does anyone else have a very distinct "witching hour" time? I can tell you without fail and looking at a clock if it is between 6 and 7. Everyday ds becomes extremely fussy and irritated between 6 and 7 and it lasts until about 8:30. He is fed, changed, held, etc and still upset. It usually starts when he eats and just continues. Curious if anyone else experiences the same. Thanks!

  • During the 3 week growth spurt, we'd have a screaming baby from around 9 pm to 1 am. I am dreading the 6 week spurt that's coming up!

  • 5:30 -6:30 p.m lord help me have patience.
  • 4:30-6:30 I guess we have 2 witches?
  • 6-9...full on colic screaming and can't be consoled. I've tried everything. Her brother was exact same and it followed the "peak at six to eight weeks and gets better each week, gone by three or four months" timeline. I am hoping she does the same and I'm counting down the days. It's frustrating, exhausting and very hard.

  • My son is fussy pretty much every evening from 6-9. He isn't full out crying but he is very irritable and goes nuts if he doesn't have a nipple or pacifier in his mouth
  • Yes. Quite similar to what you described, OP except maybe shifted a little later. Thank goodness nursing keeps her OK for a lot of that time (and so sorry to those of you with the constant screaming -I'm praying mine doesn't go to that) but in between and sometimes while nursing too she's super fussy and goes in a split second from seeming very happy to screaming at the top of her lungs with either the saddest or angriest look imaginable on her little face.

Usually 8-11pm, after his "dinner". He never seems satisfied and cries and fusses when we put him down. Right now, an hour after we put him down, he fusses for a minute every 10-15 min or so. Last night it was full on screaming so I suppose this is an improvement.

  • Starts around 8/830 pm for us. Right about the time we're winding down for bed.

  • Ugh, ours happens anywhere between 10pm and 2am. No matter what time I start her bedtime routine, we always end up with the same. It's now 5 min to 1am and she's wide awake lying in her crib. At least she's content for the moment so I'm just sitting in the glider next to her waiting for her to make her next move.

Oh my god! I was going to write the very exact thing you wrote! Yes! 6-9pm is horrible. He cries, will not settle down... He definitely binge/cluster feeds at this time. We try everything- singing, reading, dancing, walking- nothing really works. I finally got him to fall asleep at 9pm and I went to bed with him.
  • Yes! DD is a ravenous beast from 6-10/11 pm these days (4 weeks now). Thankfully the bottle or boob usually keep her content, but...it's a long few hours and my nips are getting sore.
  • We had that problem up until about a week and a half ago. DS is 8 weeks today. I'm so glad it's over! It will pass hang in there

He started about a week ago and its between around 7-10.30pm. He just fusses and feeds a lot, screeches for no real reason and is generally grumpy. Some nights he ends up getting so worked up he can't keep the boob in his mouth because he's flailing around so much, that's when he gets put in the baby straight jacket (one of those tight zip up swaddles) and that helps calm him down enough that he can at least continue feeding.
  • We have this also around 6:00 and can last an hour or two. The dr said this is normal. Babies become fussy at night from being overstimulated throughout the day or just overtired. It seems it happens every other day for us. I don't mind it because he usually tires himself out and will sleep for 4 hours after that. I also noticed he wants to stay on my breast but also becomes agitated by it at the same time. He cries and pulls at the nipple. We just try to rock him and calm him but he likes being held like a football on his belly.

Ours is from about 7-9pm too. It's sad because it's the only time dad gets to see her and she's screaming/fussing for most of it.
