Have you ever painted a mirror with chalkboard paint?

We have the ghetto old-school hold-tinted mirror sliding doors on the closet in the nursery. I was considering replacing them. But today, I got the idea to paint the whole thing with chalkboard paint. Basically floor to ceiling. I think it could be awesome if executed properly. Has anyone ever done this? What were the results? I saw some simple how-tos online which basically involve cleaning, priming with spray paint primer and painting with spray chalkboard paint. Simple enough? And if I screw it up, I was planning on replacing them anyway, right?

  • Sounds amazing! I've only used chalkboard paint on smaller things like picture frames and serving trays. I don't see why it wouldn't work on mirror

  • I haven't done it myself, but I think that sounds like a great idea! We used a chalkboard vinyl stick on thing that's worked pretty well with wet erase markers on our kitchen wall.

I haven't either, but I'm betting google would have a ton on tutorials or Pinterest. I think it sounds really fun!

  • I painted an older mirror for my DD's bedroom. It looks great, but the chalk doesn't write well on it. I used the Krylon spray chalk paint. Of course, I could have done something wrong and it could be the chalk I'm using.

  • I did one for our wedding, no prep just spray chalkboard paint and voila! It was super easy. Check out the paint first and the experts at the store might have some good input. I didn't bother doing any research and I guess I lucked out, got my paint from Walmart
  • That is so smart!
