Mother of the year awards

So after reading snuff's comment about giving her baby the paci without rinsing it after it fell in the ground and it earning her the mother of the year award, I thought it'd be fun to see what else everyone is doing to "earn" this award. We'll try to keep it flame free, no judgments ;)

  • @DangerousLikeDarkwingDuck‌ @MommyP710‌ yeah, dh and i cosleep pretty much every night. The boys just sleep soo much better that way. Doctor can suck it on this subject. It works for us.
  • I put the LO down to nap on her side or stomach. Gets a much better nap that way and I'm usually awake and just a couple of feet away from her. She does sleep on her back at night bc she's swaddled.

Yeah, WSS. I actually think our doc would be happy if he knew she slept on my chest. He wants as much skin to skin time as possible.

@Emilyh107 if you end up getting a sound machine down the line conair makes a decent one. It was the only way to get ds to sleep after the NICU (if they are so used to noise in a place like that babies can have a hard time adjusting to quiet
Agreed - our sound machine was the best thing we purchased for DS1 - he used it right up until the day DS2 came home from the hospital and then we snatched it for the new baby.  We have a HomeMedics one from Target.  Seriously worth every penny of the $20 I spent on it.

  • DH and I bed share with our LO AND our 1 year old. Works for us and everyone sleeps better that way. Surprisingly none of the drs we've seen (like our pedi or drs/nurses at the hospital) have even mentioned anything a out SIDS. We do know the dangers and what not though.
  • Those of you that bed share, how do you do it? Did you buy a sleeper thing that goes in between you? My SIL used one and loved it. I'm getting desperate lol!

  •  I think DD2 is traumatized because the car seat buckle sat right on her umbilical chord and it actually ripped off and was bleeding a lot. Poor girl. Before that incident she was fine but ever since that she been screaming every time I strap her in the car seat and will not stop until I take her out.

@MrsRahl‌ DH takes one baby, i take the other. I lay with my back to and against DH, and visa versa. I put the baby's head at boobie level, lay him on his back, and sleep like that. I keep my knees pulled up like a fetal position, and that is like a kickstand for me on the very unlikely chance that i roll forward. But like katburdette i don't move at all when i have a baby with me so I'm not worried about rolling on them.
I used to occasionally sleep on my back with them on my chest, but that makes me nervous because they are complete wiggle worms and they have rolled off DHs chest onto the bed when he took a nap with them one day. We were lucky i was awake and paying attention because he landed face down. Scared the everloving f*ck outta me!!! So now the only time we lay with them on our chest is when we are sure we will not fall asleep.

I truly enjoy co-sleeping and can't say that enough :) but I will say that doctors don't recommend it, so make sure you understand the "risks" and practice safe cosleepkng- dont put anything that could suffocate baby around them, and take measures to make sure you dont roll anywhere. But j hope it gives you some relief!
  • I stretch the hell out of the neck and arms before I slide the onesies on! Most are cotton and stretchy already so it doesn't ruin the outfit. :)

It's hard when they are so wriggly and you're trying to avoid touching the soft baby head.

I suck at getting my kid dressed/undressed. Like pulling the onesie over his head?? It's a disaster, I always get it stuck and he's wiggling and crying and it's just a disaster.

  • Our Pediatrician said that sleeping with a fan on help with airflow and reduced the risk of SIDS. That's good because we already sleep with fans by our bed. That provides the white noise baby and I need.
  • I bathe charlie in the kitchen sink and I don't clean it first other than a good hot rinse.

I've been sleeping with LO in my arms every night since birth. Even did it in the hospital. It just works. Except for the hourly panic attacks where I frantically check to make sure he's breathing and the one time I swear he tried to smother himself with my boob (fully swaddled, he wiggled six inches over, turned on his side and face planted into it). And this morning where I must have dreamt he was face down in the mattress, because I picked him up so fast he almost hit the ceiling (he was face up and didn't even wake up, but I was sweating). Our co sleeper thingy for in between DH and I gets here tomorrow. Very excited. I'm also hiding in the bathroom while my mom holds him because my boobs hurt so bad I'm dreading the next feeding. Mom of the century right here.
Hey, we all need some me time ;)  Sorry BF is painful for you right now :( It will hopefully get better!  And I totally let my mom and MIL hold Max so I can nap.  No shame.

  • I put the LO down to nap on his stomach...i know it isnt recommended but he's so much more comfy that way and sleeps way longer

  •  Oh, I only change her once at night unless she's pooped.
Me too. When I change her she's wide awake for at least an hr after so I really only change her if she's pooped or if her diaper just feels like it's getting too full.

I co-sleep with my LO and once I accidentally bit her when I was sleeping. She cried for maybe a min and I cried for like 2hrs. No marks on her at all just scared her and me.
  • Last weekend we had a huge car show here in town. Friday they had a car parade and Saturday was the actual car show. So at 9 days old C went to his first car show. He's also been to the mall.

  • My MOTY award goes for dreaming that I fed DD, but not actually doing it. She had been fussing and in my dream, I fed her, but in real life, I guess she soothed herself back to sleep. She went almost 5 hours without eating! Oops!
