pumping advice while EBFing

My little guy will be 5 weeks old on Thursday. I've been exclusively breastfeeding him and have pumped a few times for DH to give him a bottle for a feeding during the night.
I formula fed my first and went back to work at 6 weeks PP. I was able to stay hpme with our 2nd and I EBF her for a year! I Have tp go back to work at 12 weeks PP and need to build up a supply.
But how when little guy nurses every 2 hours? I really don't want to give formula unless necessary. Advice?

Re: pumping advice while EBFing

  • I pump about 30 minutes after his morning feed. He eats pretty frequently in the morning and we have never had a problem.

  • What PP said. Also a Milkies milk saver can help you save quite a bit if you use it every time you nurse. I get about 4 oz just from my milk saver most days, and I don't even use it for every feeding.

  • How does a milkie work? Does it catch let down from the side baby isn't nursing from?
  • @angierosebkr‌ Yes, that's exactly right. I was skeptical but now I can't imagine being without mine.

I chose a time that was convenient for me to add one pump session to my day (before bed for me). If you pump then consistently your body will respond by producing more. And really for work you'll need enough to send the first day and after that you should be able to send what you pumped at work the next day (although it's nice to have extra since it may take you a while to get used to pumping at work).

  • Thank you guys, I'm really anxious about now not having enough to feed him.
